Pope Leo XIV will undergo surgery to remove a lung nodule
Problem was detected in an early stage, according to the pope

Pope Leo XIV will undergo surgery in the coming days to remove a lump in his lung. The Pope made the announcement to the faithful who were accompanying the Angelus prayer on Sunday (11), in Piazza São Pedro, in the Vatican.
Leon reported that the nodule “has been identified at a very early stage and is well located.”
“The doctors consider it appropriate to intervene. And then, following their advice, I decided to undergo surgery to remove it,” he said.
According to the director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, the intervention is scheduled for the first days of next week at the Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital in the Italian capital. The postoperative hospitalization is expected to last about a week.
The Pope thanked the faithful who accompanied the prayer for “spiritual closeness”. “I trust in your prayers! Good Sunday!” the Pope concluded.
