PRF finds weight loss medications in armed escort car in Paraná
PRF seized hundreds of foreign weight loss medications in an armed escort car on BR-277 in Cascavel. Two men were arrested.
The Federal Road Police (PRF) arrested two men, aged 41 and 37, after finding hundreds of ampoules and bottles of foreign drugs hidden in the trunk of an armed escort vehicle. The seizure took place on the afternoon of Wednesday (21), during an inspection on BR-277, in Cascavel, in the West of the Paraná.
Among the seized products were substances used for weight loss. According to PRF, the drugs were transported without tax documentation and did not have registration with the National Agency of Vigilância Sanitária (Anvisa).
The vehicle approached carried out the armed escort of a passenger bus that was bound for São Paulo (SP). During the inspection, the officers verified that, although the escort service was regular, the interstate operation had not been previously communicated to the responsible security bodies.
According to the PRF, this type of displacement requires communication to the Federal Police (PF), to the PRF itself and to the Public Security Secretariats of the states involved in the journey.
Drugs were hidden in black packages
During the inspection in the baggage compartment, the police found several packages wrapped in black plastic. When they opened the packages, they discovered hundreds of ampoules and bottles of medicines of foreign origin.
Some of the products contained substances used in weight loss treatments. The exact amount of the drugs should still be confirmed after the counting carried out by the Federal Revenue.
In addition to the irregular load, the officers seized three firearms used by the escort team: a .380 caliber pistol, a .38 caliber revolver and a 12 caliber rifle. Ammunition and two ballistic protection vests were also collected.
Two men were referred to the Federal Police
Faced with the situation, the two occupants of the vehicle received a voice of arrest and were referred to the headquarters of the Federal Police in Cascavel, where the case was presented for legal proceedings.
The automobile and the seized medicines were sealed and delivered to the Federal Revenue, responsible for counting, storage and other provisions related to the goods.
The occurrence will be investigated by the competent authorities to clarify the origin and destination of the medicines, in addition to the responsibilities of those involved.
