Rainbow, Black Sabbath e Dio: turn up the volume, because this guy was giant! by John Elvis

Speak up, gals of the BOCA NO TROMBONE Portal! Talk, rock and roll people!
Do you know those days when there is a desire to forget a little bit of the problems, increase the volume and travel in the sound of two bands that made history? Oh, yes! Today I want to talk about two of my favorites: RAINBOW and BLACK SABBATH!
And there’s a detail in that story: the two have a very special connection with a guy named RONNIE JAMES DIO!
Boy, what a voice that was!
The guy didn't have to be two feet tall to look like a giant on stage. All you had to do was open your mouth and sing, and sing a lot...
Let’s start with Rainbow and a record that is simply sensational: Rising, released in 1976.
My friend, if you've never heard this album with the proper attention, you're wasting time! Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, Dio on vocals and a collection of songs that seem to transport us to another world.
I already write about this album in a column published here a few years ago.
And here comes Stargazer!
It's a trip! The guitar builds the path, the music grows and Dio seems to tell an epic story in the midst of a sound storm. It’s the kind of sound that makes us imagine castles, battles, magic and everything that blends perfectly with world-class heavy metal.
And Rainbow didn't stop there. The galley should enjoy the whole work, including with the other formations. I'm sorry... She's stoned after stoned!
But then you think: beautiful, John, the carq was already very well accompanied in Rainbow. What could happen next?
Simple: the man went to sing at BLACK SABBATH!
And then the joke got serious! Dio came to Sabbath and helped open a new phase for the band, beginning with the extraordinary 1980s Heaven and Hell. Tony Iommi's guitar kept pouring monstrous riffs, but now he had that powerful voice driving everything.
But I also want to highlight an album that deserves a lot more respect when we talk about Black Sabbath: Dehumanizer, from 1992.
Forget any idea that Sabbath was just living on past glories. With Dio back on vocals, Tony Iommi on guitar, Geezer Butler on bass and Vinny Appice on drums, the band delivered a dark, aggressive and personality-filled record.
In fact, Dehumanizer has a different atmosphere than Rising. As Rainbow takes us into a universe of fantasy and grandiosity, Sabbath plunges into a dark, suspicious and almost apocalyptic world.
And Dio fits perfectly into both scenarios!
Unfortunately, Ronnie James Dio left us in 2010, but some voices seem not to accept the passage of time. We put on a record to play and suddenly it’s like he’s there in front of us, commanding everything again.
And that's why I like these albums so much. It's not just nostalgia. It’s real music, made by people who knew what they were doing, with personality, creativity and an identity that you don’t buy anywhere.
And now I want to know about you: if I had to choose one, which one do you prefer?
Rising from Rainbow, with all that epic atmosphere?
Or Black Sabbath’s Dehumanizer with that feeling that the world is about to end?
Look, I'll tell you something: I'm glad I don't have to choose! Because, if it depends on me, the two of them will continue to play for many, many years!
And since we are talking about real rock, the invitation is: this Saturday, at nine o’clock in the evening, there is another edition of the CLUBE ROCK LIGHT, at Rádio Clube FM 94.1!
Here it has history, it has guitar, it has classics and it has a lot of rock and roll!
Because time passes, fashions change, artists appear and disappear, but that well-played riff and that creepy voice remain alive in our radio program. ALIAS THE BEST ROCK'N'ROLL AND HEAVY METAL PROGRAM OF THE GALAXIES
Increase the sound, jail!
Because rock is for those who feel!
And when God comes into dinner, my friend... THIS IS ANOTHER HISTORY!
