Rio Iguaçu in Porto Amazonas exceeds 4 meters and nearby residents are evacuated
According to reference levels, the river has already surpassed 4 meters. With this, the preventive evacuation of residents from risk areas has begun.
Due to the large amount of rain in recent days, the Rio Iguaçu in Porto Amazonas already exceeds 4 meters in height on Friday morning (11). The Defesa Civil of the municipality remains in a state of attention and monitoring due to the risk of river level rise and possible flooding in the areas already mapped. On Thursday (10), Simepar reported 60 millimeters of rain.
According to the reference levels, the river has already exceeded 4 meters. With this, the preventive withdrawal of residents from risk areas was initiated. After 5 meters, the water level begins to reach homes in the monitored areas.
For the report of the Portal Boca no Trombone, the coordinator of Defesa Civil de Porto Amazonas, Thiago Santos, commented that the families at risk are already being removed. "So far we have 36 displaced people and 12 homeless people who are receiving the necessary care and support."
The Defesa Civil keeps track of the situation. The team asks people close to the river to organize documents, medicines, essential items and be attentive to the guidelines.
Data from Simepar reveal that on Friday (11) 10 millimeters of rain are expected, 38 mm for Saturday (12) and 20 millimeters of rain for Sunday (13).
