São Paulo confirms 67 cases of mpox in a month
Number represents about 22% of the total cases in the state

Since October 4, which corresponds to the beginning of the 40th epidemiological week, the state of São Paulo has recorded 67 confirmed cases of mbox. The number represents about 22% of the total number of confirmed cases in the territory of São Paulo this year, which shows an increase in infection in recent days.
Between January and Friday, the state has already confirmed 300 cases of the disease, with no deaths. Of the total number of confirmed cases this year, 197 were registered in the capital of São Paulo.
The data are available on the platform Núcleo de Informações Estratégicas em Saúde, of the State Secretariat of Health of São Paulo.
In all, 423 cases of the disease were recorded. In 2024, it was 1,134.
Although the World Health Organization (WHO) closed the public health emergency of international importance in September 2025, the disease remains under monitoring, with laboratory tests and contact tracking to identify possible transmission chains.
“We continue to monitor the epidemiological scenario and guide the health services so that they are prepared to quickly identify and notify any suspicions,” said Tatiana Lang, director of the Center for Epidemiological Surveillance (CVE-SP).

mpox is an infectious disease caused by the MPXV virus. Transmission between people occurs mainly by direct contact with lesions on the skin, mucous membranes and secretions of infected people, including during sexual intercourse.
Sharing contaminated objects, such as bed linen, towels, and personal items, can also transmit the virus.
The disease can cause lesions on the skin and mucous membranes, including the genital region, which can be accompanied by fever, weakness, swelling of the lymph nodes (necks), muscle pain, back and head.
To reduce the risk of infection, the secretariat advises that the population avoid close or intimate contact with people who present suspicious symptoms and do not share personal objects. It is important to frequently sanitize your hands with soap and water or alcohol in gel.
