The prevention of violence against women was the subject of a socio-educational action carried out with students of the State College Regente Feijó, in Ponta Grossa. The initiative of the Department of Women, linked to the Municipal Secretariat of Family and Social Development (SMFDS), addressed respect, limits, consent and situations of violence that can be naturalized in everyday relationships.

The activity, titled “Violence against Women: Respect, Limits and Prevention”, was held last week and aimed to increase the knowledge of young people about behaviors of disrespect, control and embarrassment.

According to the municipal secretary for Family and Social Development, Camila Calisto Sanches, taking the debate to the school environment contributes to prevention since youth.

“To bring this debate into schools is to invest in prevention from an early age. When young people learn to recognize violence and respect boundaries, we help build healthier relationships and a safer city for women.”

Students know different forms of violence

During the meetings, the team of the Department of Women presented to the students the different forms of violence against women recognized by the legislation, including physical, psychological, sexual, moral and patrimonial violence.

The so-called vicarious violence was also addressed, a situation in which the aggressor uses children or people close to the victim as a way of causing suffering to the woman.

The program also addressed the importance of respect for boundaries in relationships of friendship, coexistence and intimacy.

Another concept discussed with the students was consent, presented as a manifestation that needs to occur freely, clearly, consciously and continuously.

When the “joke” goes beyond limits

According to the director of the Department of Women, Bruna Balsano, one of the points worked during the action was the identification of behaviors that are often treated as jokes, but can cause fear, exposure or humiliation.

“Many situations of violence start with attitudes seen as normal or as a joke,” he explains.

The proposal was to encourage young people to recognize signs of disrespect and understand when certain attitudes go beyond the limits of healthy relationships.

Violence on social media also gets into the debate

The prevention of violence against women has also gone through the digital environment. Among the topics discussed were undue exposure, threats and persecution through social networks and other digital platforms.

According to the Department of Women, knowing the rights and knowing where to seek help are important measures to prevent situations of violence.

During the activity, the students were presented with bodies that work in the protection of children, adolescents and women, including the Guardian Council, the Child and Adolescent Protection Center (NUCRIA) and the Adolescent Police Station.

“The action also highlighted the actions of bodies such as the Guardian Council, NUCRIA and the Adolescent Police Station, reinforcing that knowing the rights and the ways to seek help is also a form of prevention,” adds Bruna Balsano.

The initiative integrates the actions developed in Ponta Grossa to raise awareness about respect, limits and prevention of violence, especially among adolescents and young people.
