Even with the cold and cloudy skies, the Sept. 7 parade in Ponta Grossa took thousands of people to Avenida Vicente Machado on Monday morning (7). According to the city hall, about 10,000 people attended the celebration of Brazil’s independence. See below photos of the parade and the main moments of the program.

The solemnity began around 9:30 am and brought together authorities, representatives of the security forces, students, entities, service clubs, companies and different groups of the society of Ponta Grossa.

This year, the program also marked the 160th anniversary of the Brazilian victory at the Battle of Tuiuti, which took place in 1866 and was remembered during the celebrations as the “Battle of the Patrons”.

Audience follows parade in Avenida Vicente Machado

The prefeita Elizabeth Schmidt participated in the official opening of the event, carrying out the traditional review of the troops before the raising of the flags. “On September 7, we celebrated the Brazil we want: strong, sovereign and with real work. I want to thank all the entities present and the population who came to the Avenue. This is the time to remember the achievements that have brought us here and to value, once again, our heroes of the homeland,” the mayor said.

The opening ceremony was also attended by students from the Municipal School Coronel Cláudio and the Lyra Band of Campos. The groups participated in the execution of the Brazilian National Anthem in front of the public present at Avenida Vicente Machado.

After the ceremony, the parade of military entities and security forces began.

Participants were representatives of Exército Brasileiro, Military Police, Federal Police, Civil Police, Federal Road Police and Municipal Civil Guard, as well as other groups and institutions.

Afterwards, schools, service clubs, companies and other associations went through Avenida Vicente Machado.

In all, 35 entities participated in the civic parade on September 7 at Ponta Grossa.

Even with the lowest temperatures recorded during the morning, families followed the participants’ passage at different points in the central region of the city.
