September 7th Acts Feature Criticism of Lula and Moraes in Brazilian Capitals

The Sept. 7 events on Monday brought together protesters and political leaders in different Brazilian capitals. Among the main guidelines of the mobilizations were criticism of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF), in addition to requests for impeachment of the magistrate.

According to a survey published by the Congress in Foco, demonstrations took place in at least eight capitals: Brasilia, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Goiânia, Salvador, São Luís and Maceió.

Most of the events were organized by movements and leaders identified with the right and took place in the midst of the 2026 election campaign, less than a month before the first round.

Demonstrations in São Paulo

At Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, supporters of the presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) participated in a demonstration that brought together politicians and religious leaders.

During the act, Flavio again defended amnesty for his father, the former president Jair Bolsonaro.

Protesters also criticized Alexandre de Moraes and showed support for minister André Mendonça, also a member of STF.

Another event took place at the Obelisk of Ibirapuera, led by the presidential candidate Renan Santos of the Mission.

Renan criticized members of the Supreme Court and defended the departure of Alexandre de Moraes and Dias Toffoli from the Court. The candidate also criticized the Lula government and Flávio Bolsonaro itself.

At the end of the demonstration, Renan presented a document with proposals and charges related to the functioning of the institutions and the investigations involving the Banco Master.

Brasília registers two mobilizations

In Brasilia, at least two acts were carried out in the Pilot Plan.

One of them took place in the vicinity of Banco Central and was summoned by the former Sebastião Coelho. The participants addressed criticism mainly to Alexandre de Moraes and the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP).

Among the demands was the collection for impeachment applications against Moraes to be analyzed by the Senate.

Also participating in the mobilization were politicians such as the licensed senator Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE), candidate for vice president in the Romeu Zema plate, and Senator Izalci Lucas (PL-DF).

Another demonstration took place in the region of Funarte and was organized by the PL. According to the Congress in Focus, more than 300 people participated in the act, which had among its guidelines the defense of André Mendonça and requests for amnesty to the former president Jair Bolsonaro.

Augusto Cury walks in Rio

In Rio de Janeiro, the presidential candidate Augusto Cury (Avante) took a walk along the Copacabana waterfront.

Unlike the acts organized by other right-wing groups, Cury sought to present his candidacy as an alternative to the polarization between the political fields associated with President Lula and former President Jair Bolsonaro.

The candidate also defended independence and transparency in the investigations conducted by the institutions.

Protests in other capitals

In Belo Horizonte, protesters concentrated in Freedom Square. The act had among the main slogans critical of the federal government and Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

In Goiânia, a demonstration organized by right-wing leaders took place in Tamandaré Square.

Salvador also registered mobilization in the Lighthouse of Barra, with the participation of federal, state and councilors linked to the PL.

In São Luís, right-wing movements organized a motorcar through the capital of Maranhão. Participants wore Brazilian flags and clothes in green and yellow colors.

In Maceió, protesters walked the route between the Vera Arruda Corridor and the Coral Reef.

September 7 also enters the electoral campaign

The demonstrations took place in the middle of the election period, which put presidential candidates and other political leaders at the center of the mobilizations.

While Flávio Bolsonaro, Renan Santos and Augusto Cury participated in public acts, Lula focused his agenda on the official activities of the Independence Day in Brasilia.

The president participated in the traditional civic-military parade in the federal capital.

With the first round of elections scheduled for October, September 7 also functioned as a space for political mobilization and exposure of the main guidelines defended by different candidates and political groups.

The demonstrations took place in various regions of the country, gathering from claims related to Supremo Tribunal Federal to criticisms of the government and speeches directly linked to the 2026 election contest. With information from Congress in focus.
