Small Artists Big Ideas Project mobilizes 18,000 students in Ponta Grossa

The Small Artists Big Ideas project began to mobilize more than 18,000 students of the Ponta Grossa Municipal Education Network in activities aimed at education for traffic, safety and citizenship. The initiative brings together students from 1st to 5th year of 89 schools in the municipality.

With the theme “Traffic, Security and Citizenship: educating for life”, the project was started last week by Prefeitura de Ponta Grossa, through the Municipal Secretariat of Citizenship and Public Security.

The action is jointly developed by the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) and the Superintendence of Traffic and Road Safety, with the support of the Municipal Secretariat of Education.

Transit and citizenship education

According to the municipal secretary of Citizenship and Public Security, Guilherme Rangel, the proposal seeks to use education as a tool to increase awareness about security and citizenship.

According to the secretary, working on these issues with children also allows information to reach families, contributing to the formation of more conscious citizens.

The Superintendent of Traffic, João Pontes, explains that the activities were organized according to the age group of students. Among the productions are drawings, illustrated stories and poems.

The intention is to bring education closer to the reality of children in a playful and creative way, stimulating behaviors that can contribute to a safer environment.

The inspector-in-command of the Municipal Civil Guard, Macedo, also points out that the project Little Artists Big Ideas allows to bring the security teams of the school community closer.

According to him, the initiative expands the contact of children with institutions and contributes to a training based on the principles of citizenship.

Students participate in three categories

The students were divided into three categories according to the school year and the type of activity proposed.

For 1st and 2nd year students, the theme will be “The Traffic of your city”. In this category, children should produce drawings related to everyday traffic.

The 3rd year students will work with the theme “Security: Taking care of myself, the other and the place where I live”. The planned activity is the elaboration of an illustrated story.

Students in 4th and 5th years will have as their theme “Citizenship in Transit” and will be able to produce poems on the subject.

The works should be produced by September 21.

Works will be exhibited at the Education Congress

After the first stage, the selected works will be presented during the Education Congress.

The final evaluation is scheduled for September 29, while the awards ceremony will be held on October 2, the last day of the event.

The top three in each category will receive prizes.

The student who wins the first place will receive a bicycle and Certificate of Outstanding. The second place winner will receive a complete kit of school supplies and certificates. The third place will receive a basic kit of school supplies, in addition to the certificate.

Teachers will also be rewarded

The initiative also provides recognition to professionals who accompany students.

The nine teachers responsible for the students ranked among the first three places will receive kits of materials for use in pedagogical activities.

The materials are offered by the companies Leonora/Léo and Léo and Loja Viária, partners of the initiative.

In addition to the awards, the exhibition during the Education Congress will allow students to share their productions and different perceptions about traffic, safety and citizenship with the school community.
