Storm in Paraná causes roof damage, tree falls and winds up to 94 km/h. The storm also caused damage in Paraguay.

A thunderstorm on Paraná caused flashes, tree falls, damage to buildings and strong wind gusts between Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Laranjeiras do Sul, in the south-central part of the state, is among the affected cities, while other regions recorded winds above 90 km/h and high rainfall volumes.

In Laranjeiras do Sul, the Fire Department received several requests during the early hours of the day, mainly involving broken houses and trees knocked down by the force of the wind. By early morning, there was no record of casualties.

One of the sites affected was the Cinquantenaire Square, where a pine tree was torn from the root. Houses, sheds and commercial establishments also suffered damage.

Firefighters distribute tarps

According to information passed on by the Fire Department, residents who had unfurnished properties can search the barracks to request tarps.

In hard-to-reach communities, the teams themselves delivered the material during the early hours of the morning, as residents could not reach the unit.

Defesa Civil has also started the damages survey and works to clear roads and other sites affected by the storm.

In emergency situations, the guidance is to activate the Fire Department by phone 193.

Winds exceed 90 km/h

The storm on Paraná also caused occurrences in other regions of the state.

In Foz do Iguaçu, at least 16 tree falls were accounted for, in addition to damage to roofs and the electrical power grid. As of early Sunday morning, there was no information about injured or homeless people.

Among the highest speeds recorded, General Carneiro had bursts of 94.3 km/h. At Santa Maria from the West, the winds reached 85.3 km/h, while Guarapuava recorded 79.2 km/h.

Toledo had gusts close to 76 km/h. In Palmas, in the southwest of Paraná, a station located in the district of Horizonte pointed to winds of 76.7 km/h.

Heavy rain hits the west of the state

In addition to the wind, some cities had large volumes of rain in a few hours.

Between midnight and 6:15 this Sunday, a Sanepar station in Cascavel recorded cumulative of approximately 57 millimeters.

Assis Chateaubriand had 54.8 millimeters, Guaíra reached 53.6 millimeters and Medianeira recorded 50 millimeters. In Toledo, there were 40.4 millimeters during the analyzed period.

The electrical activity was also intense. Between Saturday night and early Sunday morning, more than a hundred atmospheric discharges were recorded in municipalities in the West of Paraná.

The storm also causes destruction in Paraguay.

The instability system was not restricted to Paraná. In Paraguay, a strong storm hit Asunción and cities of the Central Department on Saturday night.

The storm was accompanied by large hail and gusts of wind that reached approximately 100 km/h.

Residents of localities such as Ñemby, Fernando de La Mora, San Lorenzo, Lambaré and Luque recorded felled trees, floods, flashes and interruptions in the supply of electricity.

There have also been reports of large hailstones capable of breaking windshields, crushing vehicles and causing damage to roofs and windows.
