Storms with winds up to 100 km/h leave a trail of destruction in western Paraná

The storms recorded between the afternoon and night of Tuesday and the early morning of Wednesday left one person dead, about 100 displaced and a trail of damage in different municipalities of the West of the Paraná. Occurrences include flashes, flooding, falling trees and poles, as well as damage to schools, rural properties, hangars and aircraft.

One of the most serious situations was recorded in Umuarama, in the Northwest. A 42-year-old man died after the roof of a tennis court collapsed during the storm. Another 41-year-old man was seriously injured. The winds reached 101.5 km/h in the city.

Raids exceed 100 km/h

Data released by Simepar show that the largest gust recorded during the passage of the system occurred in Santa Maria of the West, where the winds reached 105.12 km/h, at 17:15. In Umuarama, 101.5 km/h were recorded. There were also gusts of 75.24 km/h in Maringá, 67.7 km/h in Laranjeiras do Sul, 66.96 km/h in Cianorte, 65.9 km/h in Ubiratã and 64.1 km/h in Assis Chateaubriand.

Simepar already pointed out that the advance of a cold front on Paraná, associated with heat and humidity, would favor storms with heavy rain, lightning, hail and intense gusts of wind.

Hangar is destroyed and aircraft are dragged in Toledo

In Toledo, in the west of the state, the winds caused great damage in the region of the Aeroclub and the Municipal Airport. According to the information released by the service teams, the force of the wind tore up a hangar, felled trees and dragged aircraft. Structures also reached the vicinity of PR-182, which was completely forbidden during the work of removing trees and materials from the track. The traffic was freed at around 0:30 this Wednesday.

Part of the structure of the Biopark, located between Toledo and Assis Chateaubriand, also suffered damage during the storm. An incident involving the fall of a tree on a vehicle with five occupants also mobilized the Fire Department and the State Road Police. The initial information released did not yet present a consolidated balance of possible injuries.

About 100 people are evicted

In São Miguel do Iguaçu, approximately 100 people were evicted and sent to a gym while the municipal teams carried out the survey of the damages. The municipality recorded winds at 62 km/h, in addition to flooding, wall fall, damage to buildings and hail records.

Medianeira, Missal, Santa Helena and Marechal Cândido Rondon also appear among the municipalities affected by the storms and strong winds in the West of Paraná.

Family is removed from home in Foz do Iguaçu

In Foz do Iguaçu, a family of six had to leave a flooded residence in the region near the Golden Lagoon. The residents were referred to Social Assistance.

By 11 p.m. on Tuesday, rain gauges recorded 47 millimeters of rainfall in the northern region, 26 mm in the eastern region and 17 mm in the southern region of the city. Four incidents involving tree falls were also attended.

Inundation invades properties in Nova Prata do Iguaçu

In Nova Prata do Iguaçu, a flood caused by the large volume of rain in a short period reached approximately ten properties in a preliminary survey.

According to Defesa Civil, at least six families had to leave their homes on Tuesday night. The drains were unable to supply the amount of water.

Rural areas also suffer damages

In Palmital, rural properties were destroyed, especially in the communities of Linha Cantuana, Água Bonita and Comil. Municipal schools were also damaged, leading to the suspension of classes and school transportation on Wednesday.

In Santa Maria of the West, Defesa Civil initially recorded losses for 20 rural producers from five communities. Structures used in milk production were reached, in addition to tomato and strawberry crops. It was precisely in Santa Maria of the West that Simepar recorded the largest burst among the data disclosed: 105.12 km/h.

Rain loses strength, but attention continues

According to Simepar, the instabilities could still persist on Wednesday, mainly during the early morning hours, but with a tendency to gradually lose intensity.

Rain and thunderstorms can still occur more locally. With the passage of the front system, the temperatures also show reduction and the maximums should not exceed 30 ° C in the State. Simepar also monitors the approach of a new cold front for the weekend.
