Strong storm cancels events and changes classes in PG this Friday; what to expect?
Severe storm forecasts, hail and strong gusts already cause cancellations and changes in the city's schedule; Inmet includes Ponta Grossa in a high danger warning

The risk of storms in Ponta Grossa on Friday (11) already begins to change the routine of the city. Events have been cancelled or postponed, face-to-face classes have moved to the remote format and institutions have taken preventive measures in the face of a weather forecast that puts the municipality on alert for severe storms.
The scene deserves attention. The National Meteorological Institute (Inmet) placed Ponta Grossa among the municipalities covered by the red warning of great danger for storms on Friday. According to the institute, this should be the day with the highest levels of instability and risk of severe weather in the Southern Region, with the possibility of hail and intense winds. The agency also warns of the possibility of strong downward currents associated with storms, known as micro-explosions.

Simepar also points to a rather unstable day in Ponta Grossa. The forecast for this Friday indicates a 98% probability of rain and gusts that can reach 83 km/h over the course of the day.
Cancellations begin to change agenda in PG
One of the events affected is the “United and in Peace – The Change Continues”, which was scheduled for this Friday, at 7 p.m., in Ponta Grossa. The organization announced the postponement because of bad weather and said the activity will be rescheduled. The decision reinforces the concern mainly with the period between late afternoon and evening, when many people would be on the move through the city.
The Municipal Secretariat of Culture has also decided to cancel this Friday’s programming at the Villa Hilda Mansion, which celebrates its centenary. According to the statement released by the folder, the decision occurred "considering the storm warnings expected for the schedule".
The activities scheduled for the historic house this Friday, therefore, will not be carried out.
UEPG suspends face-to-face classes at night
The State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG) also took a preventive measure. Through the Graduation Pro-Rectorate and the People Management Pro-Rectorate, the University informed that the face-to-face classes of this Friday night will be held remotely.
The decision was made because of the warning of Defesa Civil for critical weather and possibility of storms. That is, classes have not been cancelled, but students and teachers will not need to move to the campuses overnight.
Should Temporal be strong in Ponta Grossa?
It is not possible to say that all neighborhoods of Ponta Grossa will be hit by a storm with the same intensity. Temporary events can occur locally. However, the level of official warnings shows that the situation on Friday is different from a common rain forecast.
Inmet expressly cites Ponta Grossa in the red notice and points to the possibility of severe weather in Paraná, while Simepar predicts strong gusts for the municipality. Therefore, cancellations adopted by institutions and organizers are preventive.
What has already been cancelled or changed in Ponta Grossa
Until this update, changes are confirmed in the 100th anniversary schedule of the Villa Hilda Mansion, which was cancelled; in the “United and in Peace – The Change Continues” event, which was postponed; and in the night classes of the UEPG, transferred to the remote format.
The list may increase over the next few hours as institutions, schools, companies and organizers assess the evolution of weather conditions. During storms, the orientation is to avoid staying close to trees, poles, plates and structures that can be hit by the wind, in addition to not crossing streets or flooded areas.
In case of emergency, the phones are 193, from the Fire Department, and 199, from the Defesa Civil.
