Car lifted by wind in Francisco Beltrão draws attention during storm with hail and strong winds recorded in Paraná
A car lifted by the wind on Francisco Beltrão was one of the scenes that caught the attention during the storm that hit different regions of Paraná on Monday (21). The storm came accompanied by hail, heavy rain and strong gusts of wind, wreaking havoc and frightening residents.
The episode took place in a sports arena of Francisco Beltrão, in the southwest of Paraná. According to the records released, two vehicles that were on the scene were hit by the force of the wind. At one point, one of the cars was thrown at the other, in a scene recorded by people who were nearby.
The images of the car lifted by the wind in Francisco Beltrão quickly caught attention on social networks by the intensity of the storm. The situation also raised questions about the meteorological phenomenon responsible for the gusts.
In addition to Francisco Beltrão, other cities in Paraná recorded impacts caused by the storm, including Curitiba, Londrina, Paiçandu, Araruna, Mariluz and Peabiru. The reports indicate the occurrence of heavy rain, hail and intense winds in different regions of the state.
Simepar analyzes phenomenon recorded in Paraná
After records of extreme winds in Francisco Beltrão, the initial possibility of a tornado occurred. The case was submitted for analysis by Simepar (Environmental Technology and Monitoring System of Paraná), which evaluates the weather conditions and the observed damages.
The initial assessment indicates the possibility of a phenomenon called downburst, which occurs when an extremely strong stream of air descends from a storm and, upon reaching the ground, spreads in several directions.
Unlike the tornado, which has rotational motion, the downburst causes downward bursts and can cause concentrated damage, such as falling structures, flashing and displacing objects.
The analysis of the characteristics of the damage and weather data will be used to identify which phenomenon caused the winds recorded in Francisco Beltrão.
Cold front keeps Paraná on alert for new storms
According to Simepar, a cold front keeps the Paraná with unstable weather on Tuesday (22). The advancement of the system favors the formation of new storm areas in different regions of the state.
In a note released at 8:47 p.m. on Monday (21), Simepar reported that the entry of the cold front contributed to the formation of severe storms, with cores of strong intensity.
Radar images indicated areas with heavy rainfall, large amounts of electric shocks and the possibility of new strong gusts of wind in the coming hours.
The body stressed that the conditions remain favorable for the occurrence of new storms while the frontal system advances through Paraná.
