Supposed Tornado Terrifies Residents and Storm Causes Destruction in Paraná
Supposed Tornado is Recorded Near Siqueira Campos While Storm Downs Trees, Poles and Causes Damage in the Pioneer North
An alleged tornado in Siqueira Campos, in the Northern Pioneer of the Paraná, frightened residents on the morning of Thursday (1st). Videos made by residents show a cloud in the form of a funnel near the rural area of the municipality, accompanied by strong gusts of wind.
The images were reportedly recorded by residents of the Palmonari neighborhood. According to reports, the phenomenon was observed in an area located between the municipalities of Siqueira Campos and Tomazina.
To date, however, there is no official confirmation that the recorded formation was actually a tornado. Defesa Civil, Simepar and the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) had not yet officially confirmed the classification of the phenomenon.
Temporary causes havoc in Tomazine
In addition to the training recorded on video, the storm hit municipalities in the North Pioneer.
In Tomazina, there were falls of trees and poles, interruptions in the electrical grid, broken houses and flooding points on roads. Among the most affected areas are the Gusmão and Anta neighborhoods.
The force of the wind also damaged a shed, whose metal roof and part of the structure were destroyed during the storm.
Siqueira Campos also records damages
In Siqueira Campos, residents also reported trees felled and problems in the supply of electricity.
The effects of bad weather were felt in other cities in the region. Wenceslau Braz reported damage to real estate, tree falls and power outages. In Jaguariaíva, trees fell in different parts of the city.
Until the last update of the information, there was no record of people injured as a result of the storm.
Winds may have reached close to 100 km/h
The area was under storm warning issued by Inmet. The instability was associated with atmospheric conditions caused by the formation of an extratropical cyclone between Rio Grande do Sul and Uruguay.
Preliminary information indicates that the wind gusts in the region may have approached 100 km/h.
The combination of the damage recorded at Tomazine and the nearby funnel-shaped cloud has raised suspicion about the occurrence of a tornado. The confirmation, however, depends on technical analysis of the meteorological organs.
