In an interview with BnT News on Monday (14), the Coordinator of Defesa Civil of Castro, Edmir Kirchof, took stock of the situation in the municipality caused by the event of continuous rains that has hit the region since last week. According to him, the Defesa Civil has been monitoring and attending to various occurrences both in the urban area and inland, where the situation has worsened.

In the city, floods and water advances were recorded. The Iapó River, which according to Kirchof has its delimited space and does not usually cause problems, has advanced a lot this time, as have its tributaries, the São Cristóvão River and the Maracanã River, which also overflowed.

The neighborhoods affected in the urban area are: Primavera, Arapongas, Von Bock, Vila Santa Cruz, Poço Grande and the surroundings of Parque Lacustre, which according to the coordinator, had never left the box and this time overflowed. In the interior, there are records in the neighborhoods of Panhã, Socavão, Serra do Apon, São Luís dos Machados, Palmital, Limas, Guararema, Santa Clara and region of Rio Bonito. Areas of risk and homelessness

Asked about areas of risk after the tragedy in Ponta Grossa that had three deaths due to the rains, Edmir said Castro monitors these areas. There has been a landslide in the Primavera neighborhood, but no casualties.

According to the data of the homeless, the coordinator reported that the Iapó River continues to rise and has just reached the Von Bock neighborhood. On Sunday, a family was already assisted in the move and this morning more families requested help to remove the properties. It is still under evaluation, with no casualties recorded so far.

Sunday meeting and school transport

State of emergency

The municipality is still considering the decree of a state of emergency. The decision must be made today.
