Trio sentenced to 231 years for truck robbery that ended with six deaths in Paraná

Three men have been sentenced to 231 years, four months and 14 days in prison for involvement in a truck robbery in the Régis Bittencourt that ended with six people killed and 15 others injured. The case occurred in Campina Grande do Sul, in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba.

The sentence was handed down by the Criminal Court of Campina Grande do Sul. The three had been denounced by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Paraná, through the 3rd Prosecutor's Office of the municipality.

The sentences were applied according to the participation of each accused. One of them was sentenced to 83 years, two months and 17 days in prison. The second was sentenced to 79 years, 10 months and 22 days, while the third was sentenced to 68 years, 3 months and 5 days.

The three were in pre-trial detention since the day after the crimes and are expected to begin serving their sentences in regime fechado.

Robbery on Paraná involved two trucks

According to the complaint filed by MPPR, the defendants initially robbed a truck carrying a cargo valued at approximately R$ 135,000.

Afterwards, they used the vehicle to close and remove from the runway another truck, which carried about R $ 848,000 in dairy products.

When they realized that the second vehicle had a locking system that made it difficult to access the cargo, the people involved would have put the truck in reverse motion, with the headlights off, in order to cause the toppling.

Truck hit van with 21 people

During the maneuver, the truck collided with a van carrying 21 people returning from a religious cult held in São Paulo.

The crash killed the van driver and five other passengers. Fifteen other people were injured.

The crimes occurred during the early morning hours of January 5, 2026, on the Régis Bittencourt Highway.

With the conviction, the Justice set individually the sentences of the three defendants according to the participation attributed to each in the facts.
