Simepar confirmed the occurrence of two tornadoes on the Paraná between late Wednesday afternoon (9) and early Thursday (10). The phenomena occurred in the municipalities of Francisco Alves, in the Northwest of the State, and Espigão Alto do Iguaçu, in the Central-South region.

The first tornado occurred around 17 hours on Wednesday (9), in a small and localized area of the municipality of Francisco Alves. The phenomenon was short-lived and, to date, there is no record of damage directly associated with its passage. For this reason, the occurrence has not yet been classified as to intensity.

The storm that gave rise to the tornado was a supercell, a weather phenomenon that can produce severe phenomena such as tornadoes, hail, and intense gusts of wind. In the case of Francisco Alves, the supercell also caused heavy hailfall, which caused damage in other areas of the municipality.

Second tornado

The second tornado occurred around 0:40 this Thursday (10), in the municipality of Espigão Alto do Iguaçu. The occurrence was confirmed by Simepar and, at the moment, the analysis of the damage caused by the phenomenon is underway.

The intensity of the tornado will be defined after the lifting and assessment of the damage, following the criteria of the Fujita Scale, which relates the characteristics and extent of the damage observed to the estimated intensity of the winds.
