Two young people die after violent head-on collision on PR-456

A serious accident on PR-456 left two men dead and two others injured on Saturday night in West Santa Maria in the central region of Paraná. The frontal collision between a GM/Corsa and a Volkswagen Jetta took place around 8:30 p.m., at km 13.6 of the highway, on the stretch that connects the municipality to Pitanga.

According to information from the State Road Police (PRE), the GM/Corsa was travelling in the direction Santa Maria from West to Pitanga, while the Volkswagen Jetta was heading in the opposite direction. The two vehicles collided frontally.

The impact caused damage to the cars and left four people involved in the incident, two fatalities and two injured.

Passenger died at the scene and driver did not resist in the hospital

According to the bulletin of the State Road Police, the GM/Corsa was driven by a young man of 27 years, identified by the initials A.O.

The driver suffered injuries and was referred to medical attention. Despite relief efforts, he did not resist and died after entering the hospital.

One of the passengers in the same car, identified by the initials W.M., 21, died at the scene of the accident.

Another passenger of the Corsa, identified as B.G., 24, suffered injuries considered moderate. He was rescued and sent to the hospital.

The driver of the Volkswagen Jetta, a 41-year-old man, was also injured. According to the PRE, he had moderate injuries and was hospitalized.

Vehicles had different destinations after the occurrence

In addition to the assistance to the victims, the State Road Police carried out the administrative procedures related to the two vehicles involved in the accident on PR-456.

According to the police record, the GM/Corsa did not have any administrative requirements and was released to a person responsible.

The Volkswagen Jetta had irregularities in the documentation. For this reason, he was referred to the Military Police Detachment (DPM) of Santa Maria of the West, for later referral to the State Road Police station.

Circumstances of frontal collision

The occurrence was recorded at km 13 plus 600 meters of PR-456, in the stretch between Santa Maria do Oeste and Pitanga.

According to the data collected on site by the police team, the cars were going in opposite directions when the frontal collision occurred.

The bulletin does not detail what caused the accident. Therefore, it is not yet possible to state whether there was undue overtaking, runway invasion or any other determining factor for the hit.

The accident ended with the deaths of two occupants of the GM/Corsa, aged 21 and 27, and left two other people hospitalized.

Until the information presented in the bulletin, there was no update on the health status of the survivors.
