The Ponta Grossa State University (UEPG) recently unveiled the creation of two new undergraduate courses that will start in 2025, both with an extra scheduled entrance exam. The courses of Architecture and Urbanism, which will be offered in the evening period, and Psychology, which will take place in the morning shift, will have a total of 40 places each.

Applications for the special entrance exam are now open and will be extended until January 16, 2025. The interested parties can make their registrations through the official website of UEPG. The tests are scheduled for February 2, 2025.

Details about the Psychology Course

The proposal of the Psychology course emerged from the demand identified in the local community. The coordinator of the commission responsible for the implementation of the course, Sandra Scheffer, highlights that the training will have an intersectoral approach, involving areas such as Applied Social Sciences, Biological Sciences and Health, in addition to the Humanities, Letters and Arts. According to Sandra, “the course will bring together three distinct sectors and will have the collaboration of 11 departments, which will provide several possibilities for emphasis on training.”

The curriculum will be structured to offer a generalist basis covering a wide range of theoretical and methodological orientations. After this initial training, students will be able to choose between three curricular emphasises: Health Psychology and Institutional and Organizational Processes; Educational Psychology and Psychosocial Processes; and Psychology in Social Protection and Community Development Processes. "The student will graduate as a Bachelor in Psychology, but will also have a specific emphasis that will deepen their thematic training," adds the teacher.

Aspects of the Architecture and Urbanism Course

On the other hand, the Architecture and Urbanism course represents an ancient longing of the Civil Engineering department of UEPG. Professor Carlos Emmanuel Lautenschlager, who leads the commission for the implementation of the course, mentions that the proposal has been developed for more than ten years. He points out that the main innovation will be the evening offer of the course, allowing students to reconcile studies with other daily activities, such as work.

The growing demand for qualified professionals in the field is a significant factor. Lautenschlager explains that "the architect's work goes beyond the simple architectural design; it also involves social and urban issues fundamental to the planning of cities". It also complements that the experience in projects and urban planning will be a striking feature in the training of students.
