Vendavais, floods and landslides leave over 1,000 affected in Campos Gerais

The Campos Gerais registered 1,062 people affected by disasters between September 9 and 11. The survey is contained in the latest report of the Computerized System of Defesa Civil (SISDC), updated at 17h this Friday (11). The records involve Ponta Grossa, Palm, Porto Amazonas and Sengés, with occurrences of storm surge, landslides and floods.

Among the four municipalities, Palmeira concentrates the greatest number of people affected. The city recorded a local/convective storm classified as a gale on Thursday (10). According to the report, 1,000 people were affected and 145 homes damaged. There is no record of deaths, evictions or homelessness in the municipality.

Ponta Grossa concentrates dead and displaced

In Ponta Grossa, Defesa Civil classified the occurrence of September 10 as slippages. The disaster left 10 people affected, seven displaced, three dead and nine homes damaged.

The three deaths recorded in the state report are therefore concentrated in Ponta Grossa. The document also shows that the municipality had the second highest number of damaged houses among the cities of the Campos Gerais included in the survey.

Flood leaves families out of home in Porto Amazonas

Another recorded situation occurred in Porto Amazonas, also on Thursday. The Defesa Civil typing is flood, with 48 people affected and 12 displaced. There is no indication of deaths, homelessness or destroyed houses.

In Sengés, the occurrence was classified as local/convective storm – windstorm. Four people were counted as affected, with no record of deaths, displaced, homeless or damaged property.

In the cuts of the four municipalities, the balance reaches 1,062 people affected, 19 displaced, three deaths and 154 homes damaged.

What caused the occurrences?

The state report presents the typification of disasters, pointing to windstorms, landslides and floods, but does not detail the specific technical cause of each occurrence. Thus, the document does not allow to state, for example, what volume of rain, soil condition or other specific factor caused each slide or flood.

In all Paraná, the survey counts 38 municipalities affected and 39 occurrences, with 7,123 people affected. There are still 69 displaced, four homeless, three dead, 1,367 homes damaged and one residence destroyed.
