Victory fires Jair Ventura after defeat to Coritiba and relegation threat
Victory fires Jair Ventura after defeat to Coritiba. Club is two points from the relegation zone in 2026 Brasileirão

Vitória announced on Monday (2) the resignation of coach Jair Ventura, after the 2-0 defeat to Coritiba, last Saturday (31), for the 33rd round of the Brazilian Championship. The decision comes at a delicate moment for the Bahian club, which faces difficulties in the final straight of the competition and is still threatened by the relegation to Serie B.
Jair Ventura leaves the command of Leão da Barra after just over a year of work. In total, the coach led the team in 69 games, achieving a 49% profitability.
The departure was mainly motivated by the drop in income of Vitória in the second round of Brasileirão. In the last 14 games, the team has won only three and presents the 17th worst campaign of the return. In addition, the team has not yet won as a visitor in this edition of the Série A.
Vitória lives a moment of pressure in Brazil
Vitória currently ranks 14th in the Brazilian Championship, with 38 points, only two more than Corinthians, the first club in the relegation zone.
The team accumulates four consecutive games without winning, increasing the pressure on the technical commission and the board. The defeat for Coritiba at the Couto Pereira Stadium in Curitiba was decisive for the change in command.
The performance away from home has also become one of the club’s main problems. Vitória played 17 games as a visitor in the championship, accumulating 11 losses and six draws, without conquering a single victory.
Jair Ventura had important achievements at Vitória
Hired in September 2025, Jair Ventura arrived at Vitória with the mission to avoid relegation. The coach managed to keep the team in the elite of Brazilian football and had his contract renewed for the 2026 season.
The beginning of this year was positive, with the conquest of the Northeast Cup and a prominent campaign in the Copa do Brasil, competition in which the club reached the quarterfinals.
However, the results were not maintained in the second half. The elimination in the Copa do Brasil and the sequence of negative results in the Brazilian Championship weakened the permanence of the coach.
Winner will have five games to avoid relegation
The Vitória board is now looking for a new coach to lead the team in the remaining five rounds of Brazil.
The next match will be against Fluminense, on Friday (6), at 8 pm, at Barradão Stadium, in Salvador, for the 34th round.
After that, the club will still face Red Bull Bragantino, Internacional, Santos and Vasco. Three of the five matches will be played at home, a factor considered important for the team in the fight for staying in the Série A.
The definition of the new commander will be fundamental to the preparation of the team, which must win again to avoid a negative outcome in the season.
