A tragedy shook Spanish football on Tuesday (3). The 30-year-old striker Jesús de Miguel died after suffering a violent collision with a goalkeeper during a match in Spain. The accident occurred on Monday (2), during the confrontation between Tenerife and FC Andorra, for the Second Division of the Campeonato Espanhol. Images of the pitch show the moment of the shock, which caused the interruption of the match and an emergency mobilization on the lawn.

The Tenerife player suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest after being struck by goalkeeper Jesús Owono of Andorra. Despite the efforts of the medical teams and the transfer to a hospital, the attacker did not resist. The death was confirmed by the Spanish club on Tuesday morning at 8am local time.

Video records moment of fatal collision

The accident occurred in addition to the clash, which took place at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium in Tenerife.

Jesús de Miguel was advancing at speed after receiving a deep throw. In an attempt to stop the play, the opponent's goalkeeper left the area and ran towards the ball.

However, Owono failed to make the cut and ended up hitting the attacker with the knee in the chest region.

The video of the bid shows the strength of the impact and the immediate reaction of the players, who perceived the gravity of the situation and requested the entry of health professionals.

Player suffered cardiac arrest and was taken to hospital

After the collision, Jesús de Miguel suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. The rescuers performed resuscitation maneuvers and managed to restore the vital signs of the player during the service.

The attacker was referred to Hospital Universitário Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, where he remained unconscious.

Initially, the information indicated that the athlete had recovered his pulse and could breathe without devices. However, during the early hours of Tuesday, Tenerife reported a neurological worsening in its clinical picture.

Hours later, the confirmation of the death came, provoking a stir among athletes, leaders and fans of Spanish football.

Who was Miguel's Jesus?

Jesús de Miguel Alameda was 30 years old and was known in Spanish football by the nickname Demi.

The striker had gone through teams such as Leganés, Fuenlabrada, Unionistas and Castellón before arriving at Tenerife in July 2025.

In the 2023/2024 season, he stood out for Castellón, with 16 goals in 38 games, contributing to the team's access to the Second Division.

Throughout his career, he has accumulated 51 goals in 194 games. The player leaves a daughter of only one year.

Club mourns death and Spanish football pays tribute

In an official statement, Tenerife expressed deep sadness over the loss of their striker and expressed solidarity with family, friends and fans.

The repercussions have exceeded the limits of the club. The Spanish Football Federation has postponed matches scheduled for Tuesday, while UEFA has announced moments of silence ahead of European competition clashes.

Spanish police have also opened an investigation into the circumstances of the death. According to the authorities, the counting is part of the procedures adopted in cases of unnatural deaths and does not mean, by itself, that a crime has occurred.

The death of Jesús de Miguel reignites discussions about the severity of field collisions and the importance of protocols of immediate medical attention during football matches.
