Water from Parque Lacustre invades streets and reaches houses in Castro

The flooding in the Parque Lacustre already causes disorders in Castro, in the Campos Gerais. After the water level rose with the heavy rains, streets were taken by the flood, stretches needed to be blocked and residents report that the water began to advance into houses.

Images taken by BnT Online journalist Matheus Lara show the extent of the problem in the Parque Lacustre and nearby streets. At certain points, the water left the park area and advanced on the asphalt, making it difficult for vehicles to circulate and increasing the concern of residents.

One of the sites affected is Rua Hernandes Antunes, in the region known as “Rua do Morro”. In the stretch, the overflow of the Parque Lacustre caused the water to occupy part of the road.

In addition to the traffic disturbances, residents report that the flood began to reach nearby residences.

Resident Reports Water Advancing to Homes

Resident Edson spoke to reporter Matheus Lara and reported that the problem began around 10 a.m. and worsened throughout the day.

According to him, the water began to advance into the houses of the region. The resident also made an appeal for drivers to avoid circulating along the flooded stretch.

According to Edson, the passage of vehicles forms waves that push even more water towards the homes, aggravating the situation faced by the families.

“It started around 10 a.m. and is now spreading into the houses. We ask for the collaboration of the staff so that they do not continue to circulate on the street, because the waves of the cars are making our situation worse,” he reported.

The street across the park was also blocked.

The flooding on the Parque Lacustre also affected another important point in the city. The Mariana Marques Street, which crosses the park region, had to be banned after the advance of the water.

At the site, the flood passed over the existing bridge on the road, preventing traffic safely.

The scenario recorded on Sunday highlights the impacts of heavy rains on different drainage areas of Castro. The rising water level has been affecting streets near the Parque Lacustre and requires redoubled attention from residents and drivers.

The images recorded by BnT Online show large volumes of water in the streets surrounding the park and points where circulation was compromised.

The guideline for drivers is to avoid flooded areas and not try to cross stretches taken by water. In addition to the risk to the vehicle itself, speeding can form waves and increase the inflow of water into nearby homes.
