The Second Week of Beer Studies in Ponta Grossa began on Tuesday (3), at Estação Saudade, bringing together researchers, businessmen, representatives of public power and tourism professionals to discuss the importance of brewing activity in the historical, cultural and economic formation of the municipality. The event continues until Friday (6), with free activities aimed at knowledge, production and regional development opportunities.

The Portal BnT Online accompanied the opening of the meeting, which takes place in one of the most symbolic spaces in the history of Ponta Grossa. The old railway station, linked to the economic development of the city, became the scene of a reflection on another important chapter of local identity: the brewing tradition.

More than a beverage, beer represents a production chain involving agriculture, industry, trade, gastronomy and tourism, contributing to the generation of jobs and income in the Campos Gerais.

Beer is also the cultural heritage of Ponta Grossa

The municipal secretary of Culture, Alberto Portugal, stressed that brewing is directly related to the social and economic formation of the municipality.

According to him, the work developed by the Cultural Heritage School seeks to identify the economic and social cycles that helped to build the identity of Ponta Grossa. "Beer is part of the history of our city, as much as railroad, as much as trolling, because, along with the brewing in our city, we have several social movements that have happened in our territory."

The secretary recalled the influence of the Germans of the Volga, who brought traditions and recipes, as well as the historical importance of the Grossel and Adriatic breweries for the urban and cultural development of the city.

For Portugal, preserving this memory means recognizing the influence of brewing activity on the construction of the Ponta Grossa center and on the formation of local families and customs.

Beer tourism can generate new opportunities

The professor of the Tourism course of the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG), Rubia Mascarenhas, stressed that the knowledge about the history of brewing can contribute to the creation of new tourist products.

According to the researcher, the appreciation of regional traditions can stimulate visitation, move services and expand employment and income opportunities.

The proposal is to transform historical and cultural elements linked to brewing into experiences that can be incorporated into the touristic itineraries of Ponta Grossa and Campos Gerais.

Sebrae advocates integration between industry and tourism

The manager of the Regional Center of Sebrae/PR, Michael Douglas Camilo, highlighted the importance of the Second Week of Beer Studies to bring the different sectors of the economy closer together.

According to him, the municipality already has a consolidated tradition in the brewing activity, but it has the potential to expand the economic benefits through industrial tourism."An event such as this materializes a tradition, a culture in the brewing segment that Ponta Grossa has, with large industries, but also brings the industry closer to the tourism sector."

Michael explained that the integration between large manufacturers, microbreweries and service providers can stimulate the arrival of visitors interested in knowing the production processes and consuming local products.

Sebrae works in partnership with institutions such as Adetur Campos Gerais, Prefecture and Senac to strengthen entrepreneurship, the creative economy and tourism development.

From agricultural production to the glass: a complete chain

Representing the Association of Microbreweries, Ricardo Carvalho, founder of Oak Bier, highlighted the importance of the brewing chain for Ponta Grossa."Ponta Grossa, today, closes the brewing cycle, from malt shops to final production. So it's from the field to the table. This is very important for our region and it is very important for the city as well."

The integration between the supply of raw materials, industrial processing and the manufacture of beers positions the city as an important production center of the sector.

Carvalho also invited the community to participate in the activities of the week, learn about the manufacturing processes and better understand the brewing culture.

The future of Munichfest also enters the debate

In addition to the economic and tourist opportunities, the sector follows the discussions on the future of Münchenfest, the traditional Ponta Grossa party that had its 2026 edition postponed.

Ricardo Carvalho stated that the microbrewers were surprised by the decision, especially because part of the production destined for the event was already prepared.

Despite the difficulties, he advocated the construction of a new model for the party, with greater appreciation of German traditions, participation of families and more affordable prices."We have this mission now to try to turn this page and keep the tradition and continue with a beautiful party, as always had. There are 35 editions and we can’t leave.”

The representative stressed that the association intends to seek dialogue with authorities and institutions to make possible a new proposal for 2027.

The intention is to strengthen the link between the party, the cultural identity of Ponta Grossa and the beer market, regaining popular participation and expanding opportunities for local producers.

Beer Studies Week continues until Friday

The programming of the Second Week of Beer Studies began with the conversation wheel “Beer: from history to the glass”, held on Tuesday (3).

Upcoming activities include:

Wednesday (4): workshop “From the pot to the glass”, about the artisanal production of beer.

Thursday (5): class-show “Beer at the table”, with gastronomic experiences and harmonization.

Friday (6): technical visit to the Ambev unit at Ponta Grossa.

The activities are part of an initiative that seeks to connect knowledge, production, tradition and tourism, expanding the perspectives for the economic development of the Campos Gerais.
