On the afternoon of Tuesday (27), the young councillors of the Youth Chamber program, of the Câmara Municipal de Ponta Grossa (CMPG), visited the offices of the prefeita Elizabeth Schmidt and of the deputy mayor Pastor Moisés Faria to talk with the municipal managers and get to know the routine of the Executive Power closely, accompanied by the coordinators of the program, Luis Carlos Borba.

The institutional visit provided participants with the opportunity to better understand the functioning of the municipal administration, as well as to exchange experiences on the role of politics, the participation of young people in society and the importance of dialogue between the legislative and executive powers.

For the young councilwoman Tabita Klein, the activity provided different learnings. “It was two different conversations, which brought different visions. Pastor Moisés spoke about the importance of relating well to people, respecting the differences, while prefeita Elizabeth shared knowledge about the history of Ponta Grossa. She also showed us her office and some books. It was a very good experience and we hope to be able to repeat it more times,” he said.

prefeita Elizabeth Schmidt highlighted the importance of student participation in discussions about the municipality. “I am very happy to welcome the young councillors, who were elected in their schools and are already participating in discussions about our city. I see myself in them, because from an early age we need to talk, discuss issues and understand that we have to be committed to what happens in Ponta Grossa.”

The deputy mayor Pastor Moisés Faria highlighted the interest of young people in politics. “I was delighted with the project and the level of the young people who came here, with the knowledge they have about politics and the desire to be involved, concerned about people’s lives. This is what we need: young people who know from an early age what politics is for. Politics is not power for power, but power to do for people,” he said.

About the Young Camera

The Youth Chamber is a program of Câmara Municipal de Ponta Grossa that seeks to bring students closer to Poder Legislativo and encourage youth prominence in politics and decisions involving the municipality.

The initiative has 19 young councilors, elected by students of their respective schools, who participate in activities aimed at citizen training and knowledge of the functioning of the Municipal Legislative.

During the mandate, participants experience parliamentary routine through ordinary sessions, committee meetings, drafting and discussion of projects, as well as institutional visits and educational activities. The programme contributes to the development of citizenship, dialogue and democratic participation from a young age.
