Zanin asks Federal Police for contents of Vorcaro's cell phone
The Supreme Federal Court minister Cristiano Zanin requested the Federal Police for a full copy of the contents of the cell phone of former banker Daniel Vorcaro. The device was seized in November during the Compliance Zero operation. Zanin argues that he needs to analyze the material for the trial scheduled for September 15.

The minister Cristiano Zanin, of Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF), asked the Federal Police for a copy of the contents of the cell phone of Daniel Vorcaro, a former banker investigated in operação Compliance Zero. The device was seized on November 18 of last year, in the first phase of the operation, which detects frauds of the Banco Master. The request was forwarded directly to the PF’s director general, Andrei Rodrigues.
Zanin alleges that copies of the material have already been made available to Vorcaro’s lawyers and to Congresso Nacional, due to the CPMI of Banco Master, by determination of the then rapporteur André Mendonça. On Saturday, Minister Edson Fachin took over the report of the process involving Minister Alexandre de Moraes and Vorcaro. The change of report occurred amid questions about the conduct of the case.
Minister wants to analyze data before trial
Zanin’s request is linked to a trial session scheduled for September 15. In his argumentation, the minister stated: "The session designated for the next 15/9 has not yet defined object and may demand analysis of material extracted from the cell phone of the investigated Daniel Vorcaro. [...] This minister wishes to form his conviction to be fit for the trial designated."
The statement indicates that Zanin wants to examine the data before positioning himself on the case. The contents of the phone may contain information relevant to ongoing investigations. The source did not detail what types of files or messages are under analysis.
Risk to investigations worries minister
Despite the request, Zanin warned that access to additional data from Vorcaro’s cell phone could put investigations at risk. He specifically mentioned the possibility of compromising Moraes’s trial session on Tuesday. The minister did not explain how this risk would materialize, but signalled caution.
operação Compliance Zero investigates fraud in Banco Master, a financial institution that has undergone the intervention of Banco Central. The seizure of Vorcaro's cell phone occurred in the first phase of the operation, in November last year. Since then, the material has been the subject of legal disputes over its access and sharing.
Context of CPMI and report
The CPMI of Banco Master was installed in Congresso Nacional to investigate irregularities in the institution. The then rapporteur, André Mendonça, ordered that copies of the cell phone be handed over to Vorcaro’s lawyers and the parliamentary collegiate. This decision generated controversy, as it expanded access to sensitive data.
On Saturday, Fachin took over the reporting of the process involving Moraes and Vorcaro. The exchange of rapporteurs may influence the next steps of the case, including Zanin's request. The source did not detail the reasons for the change of reporting.
The Next Steps of Trial
The September 15 session has not yet been scheduled, according to Zanin. The minister wants to be prepared to analyze any issue related to Vorcaro's cell phone. The Federal Police have not yet made a public statement about the request for a copy.
The case remains under secrecy, and new information may emerge in the coming days. The Boca no Trombone portal will continue to track the developments and will bring updates as they become available.
