Athletics, academic centers and other student entities of the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG) released, on Tuesday (6), open letters on the result of the first round of the 2026 elections. In the demonstrations published on social networks, the groups advocate mobilization in the second round in opposition to Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), which represents support for the candidacy of the current president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

Among the groups that have expressed themselves are entities linked to the courses of Journalism, Psychology, Law and the Exact and Natural Sciences Sector of UEPG.

The publications have different texts and signatures. Not all cite Lula nominally, but present criticism on the right, to the candidacy of Flávio Bolsonaro and the elected governor of Paraná, Sergio Moro (PL), as well as defending the participation of students in the second presidential round.

Journalism and Psychology make direct manifestation

One of the demonstrations was published by the João do Rio Academic Center (Cajor) and the Athletic Association of Journalism and Psychology of UEPG.

In the document, the entities state that they “repudiate the election of the elected governor Sérgio Moro (PL)” and classify the far right as a threat to freedom of expression, freedom of the press and rights won.

The letter also links Moro to Flávio Bolsonaro, Lula's opponent in the presidential second round.

At the end of the text, the entities make an electoral call: “We call everyone to fight for victory in the second round; every vote is essential”.

The publication also states that the positioning is collective.

Law students also publish letters

The Carvalho Santos Academic Center, together with the UEPG Athletic Law Association, the Caveirão Battery and the Skulleders, also published an “Open Letter – Elections 2026”.

In the document, the entities state that they have decided to demonstrate before the result of the first round and highlight the defense of the Democratic State of Law, public and free education and the policies of permanence in universities.

The letter also criticizes attacks on the judiciary, the electoral system and the dissemination of disinformation and false or manipulated content.

According to the groups, these practices can compromise the formation of the popular will.

Entities of the Exact and Natural Sciences position themselves

Representations of students, researchers and academics from the Exact and Natural Sciences Sector of UEPG also released an open letter.

In the document, the entities advocate the strengthening of public universities and the continued funding of scientific research.

The text affirms that there is no technological development and innovation without public higher education and argues that, in the political scenario, neutrality would represent an omission.

“Neutrality ceases to be an ethical stance and becomes an omission in the face of the future of knowledge production in Brazil,” the document states.

Demonstrations do not represent official positioning of UEPG

The letters are signed by academic centers, athletics and student organizations, which have their own representation. Therefore, the manifestations should not be interpreted as institutional positioning of the State University of Ponta Grossa.

UEPG, as a public institution, does not appear as the author of the publications submitted by the entities.

With Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro qualified for the second round of the presidential election, student demonstrations should continue to be part of the political debate inside and outside the university environment.
