Castro launches a campaign to organize the waiting list for Speech Therapy

The Municipal Health Department of Castro is conducting a screening session with patients waiting for care in the Speech-Language Pathology sector. The initiative aims to qualify the queue, identify the needs of each patient and organize the care according to the priority of each case.

The action began at the end of August and continues to be carried out by the Health team of the municipality. The work counts on the participation of four speech-language professionals, who perform the evaluation of patients and manage to attend about 28 people per day.

The mutirão follows the same line of actions carried out recently in the Physiotherapy and Psychology sectors, with a focus on improving the flow of care and ensuring that patients have access to the service according to their needs.

How screening works

During the evaluation, patients undergo speech-language screening, a step that allows professionals to identify individual demands and establish the priority of care.

After this analysis, patients are classified according to the criteria defined by the service and referred to the corresponding queue. The measure allows a more efficient organization of care and contributes to the reduction of waiting time.

“Our goal is to make the queue move forward and thus to improve the health offered to the population more and more,” highlights Mayor Reinaldo Cardoso.

Expansion of service

The Speech-Language Clinic in Castro received investments in recent months with the aim of expanding the capacity of the municipal network. Among the actions carried out is the hiring of three new speech therapists to strengthen the team.

Since December 2025, the sector has also been operating in a new headquarters, located on Avenida Dr. Ronie Cardoso, in Jardim Arapongas.

According to the Department of Health, the expansion of the structure and the increase in the number of professionals seek to ensure more vacancies, reduce the waiting time and offer a more agile and qualified care to patients.

“With the expansion of the structure and the reinforcement of the team, the Municipality seeks to increase the offer of vacancies, reduce the waiting time and ensure a faster and more qualified care to patients”, highlights the Secretary of Health, Matilvani Moreira.
