Colliion between car and train leaves two elderly injured in Ponta Grossa

A train accident on Ponta Grossa left a elderly couple injured late Saturday after a GM/Celta vehicle collided with a railway composition at the level crossing of Anita Garibaldi Avenue. The incident was recorded around 21:48 and mobilized care teams on site.

According to the information passed on by the teams responsible for the service, the vehicle followed Avenida Anita Garibaldi, in the direction of the neighborhood-center, when the collision with the train occurred. The driver of the car, a 70-year-old man, reported that he and the passenger, also 70, had not seen the approach of the railway composition before the impact.

After the train accident, the victims remained inside the vehicle until the arrival of the care. The railway security officers of the company responsible for the operation provided initial assistance and helped in the support of the occupants of the car.

Two teams of the Mobile Emergency Service (SAMU) were activated to meet the couple. According to initial information, the two presented moderate injuries, with complaints of pain after the collision. After receiving the first care on site, both were referred to Hospital Universitário for medical evaluation.

The impact caused significant damage mainly to the front of the GM/Celta. According to initial reports, the woman was suspected of injury in the ankle region, while the man reported chest and head pains.

The train driver was not injured. Teams of patrulhamento viário were also on site to carry out the security procedures, guide the traffic and record the occurrence.

The case was registered by the responsible authorities and a report was prepared to document the circumstances of the accident.
