The Immaculate Conception Pre-Vestibular Study Group (GEPIC), a social project that has been preparing low-income young people for the entrance exam in Ponta Grossa for 18 years, threatens to close its activities due to the growing lack of security in the region of the Immaculate Conception Church, known as the 'Church of Uvaranas'. The group, made up of volunteers, issued a public note of repudiation after two students were robbed in the vicinity of the course, last Friday (14).

“Last Friday, 2 students were robbed in the vicinity of Balaroti and had their cell phones subtracted,” says the GEPIC, which highlighted the constant insecurity faced by its students, especially in the hours of entry and exit of classes.

According to the note, the project, considered the largest social course of the Paraná, has faced difficulties to continue with the activities: “Unfortunately the project is moving towards the end after 18 years if no action is taken”, the note says.

The BnT Portal team contacted Prefeitura de Ponta Grossa to learn about the security measures in the region to get around the problem. The Department of Citizenship and Public Security said it has been taking actions to increase security at the site. "Among them, the reinforcement of security actions and the presence of agents of the Municipal Civil Guard in the immediate vicinity," the statement said.

The city also requests the collaboration of the community to record occurrences and reports that can help in the direction of actions. “The Municipality emphasizes that it continues to monitor the situation and requests the contribution of the community to carry out the forwarding of complaints of suspicious actions to the official channels of the Municipal Civil Guard.”
