End of 6x1 schedule worries Sindilojas of Ponta Grossa over impact on commerce
End of 6x1 schedule worries Sindilojas of Ponta Grossa, which warns of higher costs in commerce and advocates for tax relief on payroll.

The end of the 6x1 scale and the gradual reduction of the maximum working time to 40 hours per week have generated concern in the Sindilojas Ponta Grossa and Region. After the approval of PEC 221/2019 by the Senate, the entity stated that it recognizes the benefits related to the quality of life of workers, but warns of possible impacts on the costs of retail trade of Ponta Grossa and Campos Gerais.
The proposed amendment to the Constitution was approved by the Federal Senate in two rounds on Wednesday, with 75 votes in favor and only one against. As the text has not changed from that which had been approved by the Chamber of Deputies, the proposal follows for promulgation by the Congresso Nacional.
The promulgation session is scheduled for this Friday (16), at 9 a.m.
Syndics point to concern about increased costs
In a position released after the approval of the proposal, Sindilojas Ponta Grossa and Region stressed that it considers important initiatives aimed at the quality of life and the well-being of workers.
The entity, however, evaluates with concern the possible reflections of the change to retail trade.
According to Sindilojas, one of the main issues is related to the need to reorganize the teams and, depending on the activity, to hire new workers so that companies can maintain the same operating hours.
The impact, according to the entity, could be more significant between micro and small companies, which represent an important part of regional trade.
In the union’s assessment, additional labour costs can also put pressure on the costs of products and services.
Entity defends desoneration of the leaf
Faced with the end of the 6x1 scale, Sindilojas advocates that changes in the journey be accompanied by measures capable of reducing labor costs for companies.
Among the alternatives defended by the entity is the exoneration of the payroll.
For the union, such measures could help entrepreneurs during the period of adaptation, preserving jobs and reducing the risk of transferring new costs to consumers.
The entity states that the valuation of the worker and the preservation of economic activity need to move forward jointly.
How will the working day be
The PEC establishes a gradual change in the maximum journey provided for in the Constitution. Currently, the limit is 44 hours per week.
By the text approved by Congress, two months after the publication of the constitutional amendment, the maximum day will be 42 hours per week. After another 12 months, the limit will be reduced to 40 hours.
The worker will also be guaranteed the right to two days of paid rest per week, one of which preferably on Sundays, without salary reduction.
In practice, the change replaces the model known as the 6x1 scale — six working days for a day off — with a configuration with five working days and two weekly rest days.
Trade of Ponta Grossa should adapt
The Sindilojas Ponta Grossa and Region reported that it will continue to monitor the implementation of the new rules and their possible impacts on companies and workers.
The entity also intends to promote actions and events aimed at guiding traders on changes in legislation and necessary adaptations.
The union says it will continue to advocate for measures aimed at maintaining jobs, sustainability of companies and strengthening economic activity in Ponta Grossa and the municipalities of Campos Gerais.
