Final stretch: Lula bets on popular measures and Flávio on social programs
In the final stretch of the second round, Lula bets on popular measures such as zero tariff and end of 6x1 schedule to turn the game, while Flávio Bolsonaro seeks to reinforce that he will maintain social programs. Polls show a technical tie between the candidates.

In the last week before the second round of the election, scheduled for next Sunday (25), the campaigns of Lula (PT) and Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) bet on the debates and mobilization in the streets, especially in the states of the Southeast, which concentrate the largest electoral colleges in the country, to win votes in the final straight of the dispute.
The Datafolha poll released on Thursday (15) showed Flávio with 47% of the voting intentions and Lula with 45%, in a situation of technical tie. The Quaest survey, released on Wednesday (14), also pointed to a technical draw: 46% for the PL candidate and 44% for the president.
Flávio intensifies responses and mobilization
In the Flávio Bolsonaro campaign, members of the team heard by the g1 say that the senator intends to intensify the responses to Lula’s attacks and explore on social networks excerpts from the debates between the two candidates planned for the final straight of the dispute. The last one will be held by TV Globo on Friday (23).
The senator's government plan does not provide for cuts in social programs. Lula’s campaign, however, associates this risk with Flavio’s statements in defense of the reduction of state spending.
In the final straight, Flavio’s campaign also aims to reinforce the mobilization in the streets, with acts in cities considered strategic and plans to participate on Saturday (24) in an act in Belo Horizonte organized by Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), re-elected deputy with record votes. Then you will go to Rio de Janeiro.
On Sunday (18), the senator will also be next to Nikolas on Avenida Paulista, on São Paulo. The act is seen by the opposition as a response to the demonstration held in the same place, in support of Lula, last week.
Lula bets on popular measures
One of Lula’s main bets on the final straight of the dispute also became a point of attention for Flavio’s campaign: the end of the 6x1 scale, promulgated by Congress on Friday (16) after approval in the Senate.
After finishing the first round with about 2.2 million votes less than Flávio Bolsonaro (a difference of 1.87 percentage point), the president acted to speed up the approval of the proposal, which has the support of 61% of Brazilians, according to Quaest survey released this week.
Flávio Bolsonaro, who criticised the initiative, changed its position and voted in favour. The Lula campaign then began to exploit this change to accuse the opponent of opportunism.
In the debates, the bet is to highlight measures of popular appeal, such as the proposal of zero tariff in public transport on weekends, the end of the 6x1 scale and the project that expands the limit of turnover of individual microentrepreneurs (MEIs) and provides for the forgiveness of debts of the category. Lula also promised to create a program for college students if he is re-elected.
The PT campaign must maintain the pace of mobilization, and the president intends to maintain the travel agenda for the country, with priority for the Southeast. To end the campaign, the party announced an act in Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, on Saturday (24), the eve of the vote.
Offensive on social media
The second-round campaign was also marked by an offensive on social media. Lula began to record videos in selfie format and gathered young elected influencers, such as Ana Eliza (PT-MG), Guilherme Cortez (PSOL-SP) and Ana Júlia Ribeiro (PT-PR), to expand his presence on digital platforms.
The two candidates are concentrating their efforts in the last few days to win over undecided voters and ensure victory next Sunday.
