Flávio Bolsonaro will continue under investigation by the STF even after leaving Brazil
Flávio Bolsonaro remains the target of two investigations by the STF following reports of fleeing to the US. Understand the investigations and the cancellation of passports.

The departure of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) from Brazil should not interrupt the criminal investigations that process against him in Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF). The parliamentarian, defeated in the dispute for the Presidency of the Republic, is investigated in two investigations involving possible financial irregularities.
On Tuesday (27), information released by the international press pointed out that Flávio had traveled to the Estados Unidos, despite a judicial decision that prohibited him from leaving the Brazilian territory. The possible escape comes less than two days after his defeat in the presidential election.
For exercising the mandate of senator, Flávio has a prerogative of prerogative of function in STF. The investigations involve suspected money laundering in betting platform-related operations and possible irregularities in the financing of a film production on former president Jair Bolsonaro.
Investigation involves lawyer and financial movements
One of the proceedings underway in the Supreme Court investigates the actions of lawyer Willer Tomaz, investigated for suspected money laundering in businesses involving sports betting companies.
The name of Flávio Bolsonaro appeared in the calculations after references made by an employee of the lawyer to an account linked to Alcazar Holdings, a company established in Madeira Island, Portugal.
The Federal Police investigates the financial movements related to the company and possible connections with the parliamentary.
On Friday (23), Minister Alexandre de Moraes ordered the blocking of up to R$ 6 billion in assets of Willer Tomaz. The decision also included measures of property and financial investigation.
The determinations came after investigators identified that the lawyer had traveled to Miami after being targeted by Operation No Discount, responsible for finding irregularities in discounts applied to benefits from the National Social Security Institute (INSS).
Film funding on Bolsonaro is also under investigation
The second investigation involving the senator is related to the financing of the film Dark Horse, a production that presents the political trajectory of Jair Bolsonaro.
The investigation seeks to clarify payments attributed to the former banker Daniel Vorcaro and the possible participation of Flávio in obtaining the resources used to finance the project.
The count gained repercussions after the disclosure of conversations in which the senator would have requested financial support to Vorcaro for the realization of the recordings.
Flávio Bolsonaro formally joined the investigation in July 2026. He denies having negotiated any irregular benefits and maintains that the values discussed were coming from private resources.
In October, the Federal Police asked Minister André Mendonça, rapporteur on the case in STF, to extend the investigative period by another 90 days, to complete financial analyses and obtain documents through international cooperation.
Investigations may continue after the end of the mandate
Although it has not won the Presidency of the Republic, Flávio Bolsonaro remains in the Senate until February 1, 2027.
The closure of the mandate, however, does not necessarily mean that the proceedings will be transferred to another judicial instance.
By the current understanding of the Supreme Court, the Court may retain jurisdiction over investigations involving former parliamentarians when the facts determined have to do with the exercise of public office.
Thus, the continuity of the two investigations in the STF will depend on the analysis of the circumstances of each investigation.
Passports were cancelled after Moraes' determination
The judicial situation of Flávio Bolsonaro gained new unfoldings after the second round of elections, held on Sunday (25).
On Monday, Alexandre de Moraes ordered the senator to hand over his passports to the Federal Police within 24 hours, in addition to establishing a ban on leaving Brazil.
As the documents were not submitted within the specified period, the Federal Police announced the cancellation of the passports on Tuesday (27).
Information published by the Argentine press indicated that the senator could have crossed the Brazilian border towards Puerto Iguazú, in Argentina, before moving on to the Estados Unidos.
Later reports pointed to his possible arrival on U.S. soil. Until early Tuesday afternoon, however, the Federal Police reported not having a formal record of his departure from Brazil.
Regardless of its location, the procedures investigating the senator remain ongoing. The condition of being investigated does not represent conviction, and any criminal responsibility will depend on the evidence gathered and the decisions of the Court.
