The National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) announced on Wednesday (23) that it has applied more than R$ 200 million in fines to fuel distributors for abusive increases in prices. The audit identified cases in which the gross profit margins of companies increased by more than 1,350%.

The penalties were applied after inspection processes conducted by the regulatory agency. According to information released by the Gov Agency, the irregularities were identified in cases already judged by the ANP. Fine distributors can still appeal the decisions, according to the rules established by the agency.
Monitoring continues throughout Brazil
The ANP reported that it continues to analyze processes involving distributors and resellers of kitchen fuels and gas (LPG). The investigations are related to possible infractions committed during the validity of Provisional Measures No. 1.340/2026 and No. 1.349/2026, published by the federal government with the aim of containing the rise in fuel prices.
In addition to the penalties already applied, the agency maintains the monitoring of the values practiced in the market, in partnership with the National Secretariat of the Consumer (SENACON) and the Procons of the whole country. The work seeks to identify possible irregularities in the marketing of fuels and to monitor the formation of prices charged to consumers.
How can we denounce abusive fuel prices?
Drivers who identify possible abusive increases in gasoline, ethanol or diesel prices can file a complaint directly on the official channels of the ANP. Complaints can be sent by free telephone 0800 970 0267, by the Fala.br platform or by the ANP application with VC – Postos.
In identifying a possible irregularity, the consumer can gather information such as the name and address of the establishment, the fuel marketed, the advertised price and the date on which he found the value. This information may assist the bodies responsible in analysing the complaint and in identifying possible irregular practices.
The ANP reinforces that the work of supervision and trial of the cases continues, with the possibility of new penalties as the analysis concludes.
