Inspection finds roaches and expired food in Ponta Grossa school
Inspection at a Ponta Grossa school points to roaches, expired margarine, lack of staff and problems with school meals.

A survey at the Carlos Ribeiro de Macedo School, located in the San Francisco region, in Ponta Grossa, pointed to a series of problems related to the food offered to students. Among the situations reported are the presence of cockroaches, products with expired expiration, insufficient amount of food and lack of employees.
The information was released by nurse Marisleide, who monitors the inspections related to the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) that investigates issues involving school feeding in the municipality.
According to the report, during the inspection, a package of expired margarine was found stored inside the unit’s refrigerator. The inspection also pointed out that the menu provided for the students would not be fully complied with.
Presence of cockroaches and non-compliance with the menu worry
According to Marisleide, two of the main problems identified during the visit were the presence of cockroaches in the school environment and the alleged non-compliance with the menu established for the feeding of students.
“My most important issue is the menu that is not being fulfilled and the presence of cockroaches,” he said.
The situation raises concerns about sanitary conditions and the adequate supply of school snacks, especially because food in public schools must meet criteria of quality, safety and nutritional needs of students.
In addition to the storage and hygiene conditions, the amount of food available was also indicated as insufficient during the monitoring.

Third party company was called to provide clarification
In view of the irregularities reported, the supervisor requested the presence of representatives of the third party company in charge of school feeding.
According to Marisleide, both the nutritionist and a company representative quickly attended the unit.
“I’ve reviewed all the issues raised,” he said.
During the conversation, the points identified in the survey were presented, including hygiene conditions, expired foods and compliance with the menu intended for students.
Responsible bodies should be notified
After the inspection, Marisleide announced that it intends to forward notifications to the competent bodies to request an internal inspection at the school.
The objective is to check sanitary conditions and to collect measures to ensure that school feeding is offered adequately.
“Notify the responsible organs to come here and do internal surveillance and to ensure that food and children are taken care of in the best possible way, because that cannot happen,” he said.
The supervision integrates the monitoring of school feeding conditions in Ponta Grossa. The findings reported still depend on evaluation by the competent bodies for possible confirmation of irregularities and adoption of appropriate measures.
