Is there a risk of explosion? What is known about gas suspicion in a school in Ponta Grossa
School Santana suspended classes at Unit 3 on this Saturday (16). According to the Fire Department, another nearby building also reported a strong smell and requested assistance

The suspected gas leak in Ponta Grossa mobilized the Fire Department on the morning of Friday (16), in Unit 3 of Santana College, in Coronel Street Theodoro Rosas. The strong smell led to the cancellation of classes in the unit, which serves children of the Educação Infantil. To date, the information transmitted to the BnT Online does not confirm gas leakage or risk of explosion.
A new account expands the investigation into the origin of the odor. According to information from the Fire Department team at BnT Online, another building near the school had already requested help from the corporation due to the strong smell of gas. There is still no confirmation that the two occurrences have the same origin.
What happened at Santana College?
The service began after the perception of a smell similar to that of gas in the building of the institution. According to the initial information obtained by the report, the odor was more intense on the upper floors. The firefighters were called to carry out a survey and try to identify the origin of the smell. During the service, the corporation informed the report that the building does not have a plumbing gas system.
What does the board of directors say?
In exclusive information to BnT Online, Santana College stated that Unit 3 has no gas plumbing or kitchen. According to the institution, the main suspicion is that the odor is related to the sewage pipe of the property.
This possibility has not yet been confirmed as the cause of the occurrence. The absence of an internal gas installation is information relevant to the investigation, but does not clarify, by itself, the origin of the perceived smell in the building.
Is there a risk of explosion?
To date, no technical conclusion has been passed on to the BnT Online that confirms risk of explosion. There is also no confirmed identification of the substance responsible for the odor.
Therefore, it is not possible to say that this risk exists or that it is discarded. The evaluation depends on the results of the Firefighters’ inspection and the identification of the origin of the problem.
Which units had their classes canceled?
The suspension of activities on Friday applies only to Unit 3, in Coronel Street Theodoro Rosas, intended for Educação Infantil. The other units of the Santana College hold classes normally, as reported by the institution.
