Justice approves agreement to compensate Casas Bahia employees
Negotiation involves 4,300 workers laid off by the retail chain

The Labor Court in the Federal District approved on Thursday (15) an agreement to pay compensation to 4,300 workers of the Bahia Houses dismissed by the retailer, which has been in judicial recovery since August this year.
After the mediation of the Public Ministry of Labor (MPT), it was agreed between the company and the National Confederation of Trade Workers (CNTC) that each worker will receive R $ 7.500, advance notice payment, 40% fine on the FGTS, in addition to commissions, awards and compensations for employees who were entitled to benefits before being dismissed.
Rules were also defined to prevent new mass dismissals by the Bahia Houses. The dismissals must be notified in advance to the trade union of the category within 72 hours. In case of non-compliance, the company will be fined R$ 1 thousand per worker.
The agreement is national in scope and applies to employees who were on a list presented by the company in court.
Labor prosecutor Paula Ávila attended the hearing and said the agreement would allow collective bargaining to be adopted before further mass dismissals.
“The company undertakes to respect the importance of negotiation with trade unions in future collective waivers. It is essential that unions are informed and have the opportunity to participate in this dialogue,” he said.
In August, the retailer announced that it is in financial difficulties and that it has filed a judicial recovery request. About 298 stores were closed. The company’s debt reached R$ 17 billion.
