The Iapó River, in Castro, that is, the monitoring of the ruler indicates a continuous retreat in the last hours: the reading of this Friday (18) at 10 o'clock recorded 6.27 meters, from 6,283 m at 9 am and 6.30 m at 8 am. The level represents a cumulative fall of 96 centimeters from the peak of the flood, of 7.23 m, recorded on September 13.

The municipal secretary of Urban Development and Meio Ambiente, Edmir Reinaldo Kirchof, explained that the monitoring of the river follows closely despite the improvement in the scenario. “The level of Japan has been falling consistently, which is good news, but we can’t relax. The ground is still saturated and the forecast of new heavy rain for the weekend may quickly impact this picture. Therefore, we maintain constant monitoring with Defesa Civil,” said the secretary.

To keep up with short-term alerts, residents can send the ZIP code by SMS to the number 40199 or send a "hello" to WhatsApp (61) 2034-4611, registering the municipality to receive updates.

Temporary

Simepar, in partnership with Defesa Civil do Paraná, updated on Friday (18), at 10:36, the Risk Management Bulletin no 042/2026, effective from 18 to 21 September. The document points to the intensification of a low-pressure system between Paraguay and northern Argentina, which should strengthen the flow of hot and humid air towards the south of the country and favor the formation of storms and heavy rain scattered throughout several regions of the state over the weekend.

According to the bulletin, there are forecasts of localized storms, rain strokes, gusts of wind and electric shocks, with the risk of occasional flooding and interruptions in the supply of energy. From Saturday (19), the picture intensifies: punctually intense storms, heavy rain in a short period of time, gusts of wind, electric shocks and hailfall, with the potential for falling trees and branches, floods, overflowing streams and flashes are expected. By that date, much of the state is operating at moderate risk, with high risk in the West and Northwest regions.

The condition of instability follows in the early morning hours of Sunday (20), when the moderate risk also extends to the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, Campos Gerais and the coast. The bulletin also highlights that, between the second half of Saturday and the first half of Sunday, the accumulated rainfall may approach 100 mm in some of these areas, which represents a point of attention redoubled precisely because it reaches regions already affected by the expressive volumes of rain recorded in the last days. On Monday (21st), a cold front is expected to once again reinforce humidity and instability, with the possibility of more intense storms in the West and Southwest regions during the afternoon and evening.

The mayor Reinaldo Cardoso stressed that the Municipality keeps the teams mobilized in the face of the new alert. “We know that the city and the interior are still recovering from the last days of rain. Therefore, we continue with the readiness teams and reinforce the demand for attention to the population, especially in rural areas and points that have already suffered from flooding,” he said.

In case of emergency, the official channels are available:

Municipal Guard: 153 (free call, 24 hours)

Firefighters: 193 (free call, 24 hours)

Attendance: Crisis Center in the Municipal Palace (Praça Pedro Kaled, 22)
