Man keeps 2-year-old son hostage inside car in Fazenda Rio Grande

A man holds his own son, approximately 2 years old, hostage in the afternoon of Tuesday (8), in Fazenda Rio Grande, in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba. The child remained inside a car with the man, who is armed with at least one knife. At about 1 p.m., he got out of the vehicle with the boy in his lap. The police have been negotiating with the suspect for over an hour.

According to information provided by the Military Police, the incident began after the man, who was reportedly in an outbreak, attacked his wife and neighbors using two knives. Afterwards, he took the child and ran away in a vehicle.

The PM reported that it subsequently received a new request reporting the presence of a silver Chevrolet Meriva standing in the middle of the road, in the back of the hand.

“As a result, a new applicant reported a silver Meriva in the middle of the road standing on the other hand with an individual inside with a child where it was bleeding,” the military police said.

When teams arrived at the scene, they found the man inside the vehicle with the child in his lap and at least a knife.

Negotiation with the Military Police in Fazenda Rio Grande

Security teams surrounded the vehicle and began negotiating to try to remove the child from the risk situation. At about 1 p.m. the man got out of the car while still holding his son. He remains in possession of a knife while police try to convince him to release the boy.

The negotiation is over an hour long.

According to initial information, before getting into the car with the child, the man allegedly assaulted his own wife. The military police said the suspect also attacked neighbors during the beginning of the incident.

There is no detailed information so far about the health of the woman, the neighbors or the injuries presented by the man himself.

Occurrence is ongoing

The priority of the teams is to ensure the safe removal of the child. The incident remains ongoing and new information is expected to be released by security forces throughout the afternoon.
