MEC opens registrations for free master's degree for teachers
MEC launches free master's degree for teachers in various fields. Registrations are open at public institutions across Brazil.

The Ministry of Education (MEC) announced the opening of registrations for free professional master's courses aimed at educação básica teachers throughout Brazil. The initiative, linked to the More Teachers – Training Portal program, aims to enhance and qualify the teaching career, with direct reflections on the improvement of educação básica.
The opportunities contemplate several areas of knowledge, including Inclusive Education, Letters, History, Mathematics, Environmental Sciences, Philosophy, Sociology, Biology, Physical Education, Arts, Geography and Physics Teaching. The courses are offered by public universities of excellence spread throughout the country.
How does the free master's degree of MEC work
Teachers and other education professionals who have a higher education diploma can apply, provided that they meet the requirements of the edicts of each program. Applications and the selection process are made directly by the educational institutions.
The modalities of the courses vary between face-to-face, hybrid and distance learning (EAD), ensuring flexibility and access for candidates from different regions, including the Campos Gerais. Teachers from Ponta Grossa, Castro and neighboring cities, for example, can enroll in online programs without having to travel to capitals such as Curitiba or São Paulo.
Benefits for teachers and educators
The master's degree is recognized throughout the national territory and has a stricto sensu validity, which can significantly boost the teaching career. Among the benefits are:
Functional progression and professional enhancement;
Increased competitiveness in public tenders;
Training aligned with the practices of day to day school;
Total free of charge, no enrollment or monthly fee.
How to Apply for the Free Master's Degree
The first step is to access the Training Portal – More Teachers, an official platform created by the MEC to gather the vacancies. There, the candidate must locate the programs available in the area of interest, read the notice and follow the application instructions.
The documentation and deadlines vary according to the institution responsible. However, in all cases, the selection includes curricular analysis and may involve interviews or tests.
National policy of teacher enhancement
The project is part of the Strict Sensu Graduate Program for Teacher Qualification of Educação Básica (ProEB), launched in 2011. In 2024 alone, more than 6,600 positions were offered in professional masters, serving priority areas of education.
In addition to the master’s degree, the MEC has invested in pedagogical support programs, specialization courses and initiatives such as the Midsummer, which offer financial incentive and support for educators.
The expectation is that, with the expansion of access to master’s courses, thousands of teachers from the Campos Gerais region and from all over the country will be able to improve their education, directly benefiting the quality of public education.
