A mega operation on the Paraná mobilized more than 500 police officers on Wednesday to comply with 215 court orders against a criminal organization under investigation for drug trafficking, money laundering and violent crimes. Most of the offensive occurs in Paraná municipalities, although there are also diligences in Santa Catarina and São Paulo.

In all, 95 arrest warrants and 120 search and seizure warrants are being served. The court also authorized measures such as breach of bank secrecy and access to electronic device data seized during the action.

Action hits several cities of the Paraná

In Paraná, the warrants are fulfilled in municipalities such as Clevelandia, Pato Branco, Francisco Beltrão, Palmas, Cascavel, Curitiba, Piraquara, Guarapuava, Laranjeiras do Sul, Capanema and Cruzeiro do Oeste, in addition to other cities.

The operation is coordinated by the Civil Police of Paraná (PCPR), with the participation of the Public Prosecutor of Paraná (MPPR), Military Police, Criminal Police and support of security forces of other states.

Lighthouse dogs are also used in searches.

Investigation Began in the Southwest of the State

According to PCPR, the investigation began in Cleveland, in the southwest of Paraná, after violent crimes attributed to members of the group.

The organization is suspected of involvement in episodes of torture and private imprisonment, as well as threats related to drug trafficking charges.

With the advance of the counts, the researchers identified a structure that would act in the distribution of cocaine, crack and marijuana in different cities of the State.

The group would also be responsible for maintaining properties used as drug deposits and for coordinating points of sale at a distance.

Group would command from inside prisons

Another point of the investigation involves the performance of members who would be trapped in units of the Paraná.

According to the Civil Police, clandestine cell phones found inside a Southwestern prison helped investigators identify orders that went from the prison system to members who acted on the streets.

The investigation also points to a division of functions between members, including with people responsible for overseeing internal rules of the group and applying punishments.

Money laundering is also being investigated

The organization’s financial movement is also in the crosshairs of the police.

According to the investigation, money from trafficking was moved via PIX transfers to third-party accounts, with fractional deposits and withdrawals made shortly thereafter.

Police also identified a company that, according to the count, could have been used as a front to receive payments related to drug trafficking.

The mega operation is still underway on Wednesday, and new results may be released by authorities throughout the day.
