Mesa para cinco, by Renata Régis Florisbelo
A woman and five children draw attention during a lunch at a restaurant, sparking curiosity and reflections in an observer of the scene.

Each of the five children behaved well. No one ran or screamed, nor did they look at the woman who was with them as if she were asking for something. They arrived at the restaurant together. A girl of light features. The children were intrigued. Children? A young lady so young... someone would have entrusted you with those well-behaved puppies of people to arrange lunch?
The girls with their forks eating without hurry and she took care, attended. The remainder of the time was destined for itself in the few forks in which its dish had reached. There was a harmonious color in those dishes. There was regularity in the faces that tasted comedian. Equally regular and subtle were the tones of everyone’s clothes: woman and her five children for lunch.
There was a regularity in my expression that while I ate orange with beans, I tried to hide the question as a spectator of the scene. On the table were five children, a woman and my interrogation.
