Munichfest Delay Hurts Ponta Grossa Hospitality by Over R$100,000
Entity Warns of Impacts from Munichfest Delay, a Traditional Event in the City's Tourism Calendar, and Demands a New Date for the Event
Traditionally held between November and December, Münchenfest is part of the Ponta Grossa event calendar and moves sectors such as hospitality, gastronomy and services.
Its first edition took place in 1990 and since then, the party celebrates German culture at Paraná and brings to the city artists from different musical genres, from sertanejo to pop, including international attractions.
However, in 2026 the party was postponed without a new date announced and the decision harmed the city’s hospitality by more than R$ 100,000, as the reservations were all cancelled. “We were surprised by the announcement of the organization of the event, even more so when it was so close to the first show,” stresses the president of the Visit Ponta Grossa, João Guilherme Martins.
Since its inception in the 1990s, the party was cancelled in 2009, by the influenza A pandemic, and 2020 and 2021 motivated by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2026, the justification is the high volume of rainfall for the days of the event and the economic crisis.
João points out that Visit PG awaits a new date announcement: “We hope that a new date will be announced soon. Munichfest is part of the history of Ponta Grossa and has an important role in driving the local economy, especially in the hospitality, gastronomy and tourism sectors.”
Visit PG Cobra City Hall Positioning
As well as other leading-edge entities, the Visite Ponta Grossa awaits a positioning of the Prefeitura Municipal on the postponement of Münchenfest. The entity seeks clarification on the planned routes, considering the impacts of the decision for the hotel industry, tourism and other sectors of the local economy.
The realization of the event is linked to a contract of permission of use of public space signed between the municipality and the company responsible. In this context, the Visit PG considers it important that the City clarify what measures are being adopted and what are the prospects for the celebration.
