Pedaços, by Renata Régis Florisbelo

They were born tiny, but supported by their mother. Eyes still closed on that smallness that affronts us when compared to human fragility: we are totally dependent puppies and little able to survive in inhospitable conditions. In the old towns, our homes are free from so much savagery.
Is it? On the rainy morning after days of waterstorms coming from the sky, the gutters directed and led from the roofs to the already soaked ground. The eyes that accompanied the choreographed dance from the rooftops were horrified at the impact of finding pieces of one of the little puppies shattered, eaten to the last nails of meat.
Loose legs next to the rest of the leather, only what's left. A fluffy animal, in soft hairs that affection and grace aroused became carcass carcomida, food of know there that urban and unknown beast.
