PT criticizes STF and demands end of privileges in the judiciary

The National Executive Committee of PT met on Thursday (10.set.2026) and published a resolution with harsh criticism against the Supreme Federal Court. The party claims the STF is waging a 'war' and suggests a series of changes in the judiciary, including the end of super-salaries and the creation of mandates in the superior courts.

The National Executive Committee of the Workers’ Party met on Thursday (10 September 2026) and released a resolution stating that the Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) “brings a ‘war’ to the frightened eyes of society.” The seven-page document brings a series of collections and suggestions for changes in the judicial system, in a critical tone. The party argues that the justice system cannot be “a business counter”.

The resolution was published after the meeting of the petist summit, which took place amid a scenario of tension between the Powers. The text is available in full in PDF (81 kB) and details proposals ranging from the expansion of social control to the hardening of penalties for actors of the justice system.

Social control and the fight against privileges

Among the measures suggested, the PT proposes the creation of civil society seats in the National Council of Justice (CNJ) and in the National Council of the Public Prosecutor's Office (CNMP). According to the party, the intention is to expand the social control of justice. The resolution also calls for an end to super-wages, hangovers and privileges in the judiciary.

The party also advocates the creation of codes of ethics and the establishment of harder penal types for corruption, embezzlement and influence trafficking committed by actors of the justice system. The proposal includes initiating the debate on mandates in the higher courts and implementing tougher quarantines that impose ethical conduct.

Another front addressed is the creation of solid racial and gender criteria for appointment in courts, in addition to the strengthening of Labor Justice. The PT also advocates the universalization of the Public Defender’s Office in the country, seeking to expand access to justice and the security of rights.

Mandates in the Judiciary enter the agenda

On Thursday (10.Sep), the national president of the PT, Edinho Silva, advocated the implementation of mandates in the Judiciary from the second instance. The leader did not specify the time of the mandates. The statement was made after the meeting of the National Executive.

Edinho Silva also said it did not know if the proposal would be encamped by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). On June 9, the leader had said that it was not a priority to institute mandates for ministers of the STF, but the situation has changed because of the crisis in the Supreme.

The change in position reflects the sharpening of the party’s criticism of the judiciary. Thursday’s resolution is yet another chapter in this escalation, which has gained momentum after recent decisions by the STF that displeased political sectors.

Reactions and next steps

The PT document does not detail how the proposals would be implemented, but signals a political offensive around the Judiciary agenda. The source did not detail whether there will be articulation with other parties or presentation of projects in Congress.

The resolution should fuel public debate on the role of the STF and the need for reforms in the justice system. The party promises to keep pushing for changes, at a time of strong institutional polarization.

The Boca no Trombone Portal will continue to follow the developments of this agenda and will bring new information as it becomes available.
