Rafael Greca undergoes surgery after accident during campaign in PR
Candidate for vice-governor suffered left calf injury and needed skin graft

The former mayor of Curitiba and candidate for deputy governor of the Paraná, Rafael Greca (MDB), 70, underwent surgery on Thursday (3) for reconstruction of the skin of the left leg. The procedure was necessary after the worsening of an injury caused by a fall during a campaign agenda in Maripá, in the West of Paraná, on August 28.
Greca remains hospitalized in the Hospital Nossa Senhora das Graças, in Curitiba, where he is being accompanied by the medical team. He is expected to be discharged over the weekend if the recovery continues as expected.
Accident caused large hematoma
According to the latest information, Greca suffered a strong compression in the left calf region during the accident. The trauma caused a large hematoma that subsequently ruptured the skin, leaving an open wound.
Soon after the fall, Greca cancelled the planned commitments and returned to Curitiba. Initially, he reported that he had not suffered any fractures and that he was well. The candidate ended up staying hospitalized to monitor the evolution of the injury.
On Sunday, Greca said he had undergone a procedure to drain the hematoma on his left calf. In the following days, the region received treatment with a vacuum dressing, which uses negative pressure to help clean the wound and form tissue for healing.
Greca receives skin graft
On Thursday, the doctors performed a skin autograft. In this type of procedure, a healthy portion of the patient's own skin is removed and placed on the injured area, allowing reconstruction of the site where there was tissue loss.
On Wednesday, before surgery, the team had already reported that Greca’s clinical evolution was considered excellent, with normal physical conditions and vital signs. The hospitalization had been prolonged precisely to follow up the healing and prevention of infections.
After being discharged and progressing in recovery, Rafael Greca is expected to gradually resume activities and the electoral agenda. He is running for deputy governor on the board headed by Sandro Alex (PSD) in the 2026 election.
