The rains in Ponta Grossa have caused damage to rainwater galleries and streets in different regions of the city in recent days. In the face of the erosions and collapses recorded, the City Council has started an emergency work schedule to recover the most affected places and reduce risks to the population.

The work is carried out by the Municipal Secretariat of Public Services. According to the Municipality, the large volume of water caused erosions in galleries, leaving pipes exposed and causing damage to sections of some streets.

As soon as the problems were identified, the areas considered to be at risk were isolated. Afterwards, the points entered an emergency recovery schedule, with priority for places where there is greater instability of the terrain.

Repairs are carried out in different neighborhoods

Among the places that receive interventions are Rua Otacília Hasselmann de Oliveira, in Uvaranas; Rua Barão de Capanema, in New Russia; and Rua Carlos Dezaunet Neto, in Talleres.

According to the City Hall, these points showed erosion after heavy rains and are undergoing correction works.

In addition to the places that already receive teams, other affected sections remain being followed by the Public Services Secretariat and should enter following the programming.

Garbage can contribute to galleries clogging

According to the municipal administration, among the factors that contributed to the damage recorded is the accumulation of garbage and other waste inside the galleries.

When materials block the handles, the water finds it difficult to follow through the pipe. In situations of large volume of rain in a short period, the pressure increases and can cause the breakage or displacement of the structures.

With this, the terrain above the galleries loses support, resulting in erosion and partial collapses in the roads.

Street in Vila Liane will also be recovered

Another point accompanied by the City Hall is in Rua Augusto Faria Rocha, in Vila Liane, region of Jardim Carvalho.

There is a passage of a stream and part of the street was hit by erosion. Despite the damage, according to the Municipality, the road remains free for traffic.

The recovery of this stretch is scheduled for the next few days, along with other points identified by the municipal teams.

Services continue after rainy period

In addition to the recovery of the rain-damaged galleries in Ponta Grossa, municipal teams work on the clearance of pipes to improve water flow.

Maintenance and patrol work are also being carried out on streets that have suffered damage caused by rain and flooding.

The Municipal Secretariat of Public Services continues to monitor the affected areas and organize the repairs according to the severity and the need of each point.
