Respiratory viruses still on the rise in the country, warns Fiocruz
New weekly cases of SRAG from covid-19 are low nationwide

The cases of Síndrome Respiratória Aguda Grave (SRAG) by respiratory virus demonstrate that rhinovirus, metapneumovirus and Sars-CoV-2 have a tendency to increase at the national level. However, new weekly cases of COVID-19 SARS are low in the country.
The alert is in the weekly InfoGripe bulletin of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), released on Thursday (8).
The researchers point out that “the priority population checks if they are up to date with the vaccination against Covid-19”.
“In the case of pregnant women, it is also essential to vaccinate against the Respiratory Syncytial Virus [RSV],” they recommend.
At the national level, according to the bulletin, there is a slight sign of resumption of the growth of cases of SARS in children and adolescents aged 2 to 14 years and stabilization of cases in other age groups.
The bulletin also notes that “cases of RSVS and influenza B are falling and hospitalizations for influenza A are stable at low incidence levels.”
SRAG
At the regional level, the bulletin warns that Alagoas, Roraima and Sergipe have an incidence of Síndrome Respiratória Aguda Grave (SRAG) at an alert level, risk or high risk in the last two weeks with signs of growth in the last six weeks.
The increase in SARS in these states occurs mainly in children and adolescents. In Alagoas and Sergipe this increase is associated with metapneumovirus. In Roraima, there are still not enough data to determine the virus responsible for the disease.
The study also points out that five units also present incidence of SARS at alert levels, risk or high risk, but without sign of growth in the long-term trend: Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.
Five of the 27 capitals - Aracaju, Porto Alegre, Rio Branco, São Luís and Vitória - have had an alert, risk or high risk level of SARS activity in the last two weeks.
Mortality
The average weekly incidence and mortality, in the last eight epidemiological weeks, according to InfopGripe, maintains the typical scenario of greater impact on the extremes of the age groups analyzed. While the incidence of SARS has a higher impact in children up to 2 years of age, mortality cases impact the population from 65 years of age.
