Rogério Marinho hospitalized after illness in Brasília

Senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), general coordinator of the campaign of Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) to the Presidency, fell ill on Tuesday (6) after campaign commitments in Goiânia and sought medical attention in Brasilia. The information was confirmed by the parliamentary advisory to the People's Gazette. Marine was taken to Hospital DF Star as a precaution, where he remains in observation.

According to the senator’s team, the malaise occurred during the return to the federal capital. The initial suspicion is of a drop in blood pressure, but doctors are waiting for test results for a more accurate diagnosis. The advisory ensured that Marino is well and is conscious.

Intense agenda before discomfort

Hours before he was sick, Marinho was at Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) for a meeting with the President of the Court, Edson Fachin. The meeting took place amidst the criticism of the Flávio Bolsonaro campaign of the Judiciary decisions that, according to the senator, interfere with the actions of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). After the meeting, Marinho stated that there will be no “vengeance” against ministers of the STF in the eventual government of Flavio, but there will also be no omission in the face of possible crimes of responsibility.

He advocated a change in the Senate's internal rules of procedure to allow automatic impeachment requests from Supreme ministers when 49 senators support the request. The senator also criticized what he called "continued interference" of the STF in the TSE and nominally cited ministers Alexandre de Moraes, Flávio Dino and Gilmar Mendes. Marinho said the campaign aims to “normalize” the relationship between the Powers and charge responsibility if there are conducts that configure a crime of responsibility.

Before the agenda in Goiás, Marinho participated in campaign meetings in Brasilia and accompanied Flávio Bolsonaro in political commitments. The intense routine, added to the displacement between cities, may have contributed to the picture of fatigue and pressure drop.

Event in Goiânia and return to Brasilia

Marinho participated in Goiânia of an act of support of Ronaldo Caiado (PSD) to the candidacy of Flávio Bolsonaro in the second round. The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), also attended the event. After the appointment, the senator traveled back to Brasilia and went directly to the hospital, without going through other places.

The campaign of the PL candidate began this week an offensive to broaden its political base. Marinho participates in the negotiations with central parties, while Flávio seeks to consolidate the support of governors and candidates defeated in the first round. Tarcísio de Freitas went on to act more directly in the campaign after securing re-election in São Paulo.

Election context and next steps

Flávio Bolsonaro finished the first round leading the presidential contest, with 47.03% of the valid votes, and will face President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the second round, scheduled for October 25. Campaign coordination plays a central role in the political articulation and communication strategy, which makes Marinho’s health a point of attention for the team.

So far, there is no forecast of hospital discharge. The senator’s office said new bulletins will be released as soon as the exams are completed. The expectation is that Marinho will resume campaign activities in the coming days, if the results do not indicate any more serious conditions.
