The tunnel of the San Martin, in Ponta Grossa, underwent a complete revitalization and had the works completed on Thursday (29). The passage, located in the Neves neighborhood, received new concrete flooring, drainage system, painting and LED lighting. The improvements were carried out by the City Hall, through the Municipal Secretariat of Public Services.
Considered one of the main accesses to the community of the San Martin and also used by residents who follow towards the Alagados region, the tunnel is under a railway crossing. The intervention seeks to improve circulation conditions and reduce the need for frequent repairs to the structure.
San Martin tunnel receives concrete flooring and new drainage
One of the main changes was the complete replacement of the old floor by a new concrete floor. According to Prefeitura de Ponta Grossa, the choice of material aims to increase the durability of the passage and decrease the need for future maintenance.
To perform the services, the teams removed the previous coating and carried out the relocation of existing drinking water and sewage pipes at the site.
Another important improvement was the implementation of a new drainage system, developed to prevent water accumulation within the tunnel. The measure also aims to preserve the pavement, reducing the damage caused by moisture and inadequate drainage of rainwater.
The rain galleries have been remodeled, as have the accesses to the passage. Channels were also installed to direct the water and avoid problems that could compromise the structure.
New LED lighting seeks to increase safety
In addition to the interventions on the floor and drainage, the tunnel of the San Martin received a new painting, completed in the afternoon of Thursday (29).
The work also included cutting down the vegetation nearby and installing a lighting system with LED lamps, increasing visibility inside the passageway, especially at night.
According to the municipal administration, the improvements are aimed at offering more safety and comfort to drivers and pedestrians who use access on a daily basis.
With the completion of the services, the expectation is that the structure presents greater wear resistance and better mobility conditions for the population of the region.
